This is posted in the audio/accessories thread but since this popped up I figured I would share it here. The truck is sold now but it was a pretty cool setup :D

The build thread:
http://www.tundratalk.net/forums/tundra-audio-visual-discussion/92793-subs-floor.html

This project was done on my (new at the time) 2010 Tundra Double Cab. I had this truck for about 2 months before I started cutting it up :) I figured I would share this project with fellow enthusiasts!

***EDITED TO ADD ALL PICS AND VIDEOS TO FIRST POST***

The pursuit of sound in a 2010 Double Cab.

Zapco I5100.7 amp
front stage: not telling :D But it is a 3 way active and sounds bad @$$!!!
Subs: 2 Image Dynamic q12 v2's

So, I went through a handful of ideas and trials as to where I would house my 2 Image Dynamics Q12 v2's and couldn't come up with much. There's just less than 6 inches of real estate under the back seat. My original plan was to weld in new seat mounts and raise the back seat a couple inches. That was a bad idea because then I wouldn't be able to see much out of the rear view mirror. Other ideas were to build a center console but I like what I have now and I like the fact that I can raise the seat for a 6th seat if I need it.

So... Why not put them in the floor? Here's the plan: put the subs in the floor right where the back seat passengers feet will be. I will cut out the floor board and make a new steel box made out of 1/16th steel and rebuild the floor board to allow me to add a couple of sealed sub enclosures. I didn't take too many pics because I wanted to keep progress going. Here's the progress so far:

A stripped interior to see what my options are:

I spent more time on the passenger side because the driver side is a lot more free for under carriage space due to the exhaust pipes on the passenger side.

After taking my measurements I figured that the passenger side sub enclosure will be 7.5x14x16.5 and the driver side box will be 9.5x13.5x13.5, and after adding a little MDF inside the steel housing, that will give me .75 cubic feet for both enclosures.

Here's both sides of the floor board cut out:

I made a couple of mock boxes out of cardboard and installed them:

That's about all I got today. Tonight the plans are to cut all the 1/16th sheet metal into the proper sizes, then weld them to make each box.

Hopefully I'll be done with it tomorrow but plans are to make it seem as if the truck is still 100% stock until you hear the stereo. I will fab up some grills with a steel frame and steel mesh so it's strong enough to withstand a bunch of abuse and protect the subs under the carpet.

More to follow tomorrow!!

@sv dude .. that is some clean work, i am a audiophile myself..

love the choice on amp, those image dynamics are no joke either..

please do tell what you used for front stage..

questions : how did the subs perform with minimal breathing room?

how did the bass load with this setup?

good job breh:girl:

I don't give away the secret for the front stage. My buddy competes in mecca and another league for sq and I copied his front stage. His mids aren't what he advertises due to him using a speaker that's different that what his sponsor asks him to use. Because of that reason I don't disclose my front stage. The front stage is rather unique and if the wrong person knows what my front stage is then it won't take much to put two and two together.

As far as the bass, they are enclosed boxes so they don't have a ton of excursion and don't need much breathing room. They sound absolutely awesome! I didn't build it for spl so the reactions are crisp. I loved the amp but eventually wanted to use somethng with digital processing but never got to it.

Thanks for the props!

This is my "other" ride. It's my 68 Firebird. I bought this car in 1985 as a 17 year old kid. It was originally straight 6 cyl, 3 speed stick car. The very weekend I bought it, I ripped out that weak 6 cyl and replaced it with a junkyard 400 and a 4 speed trans. I beat the SNOT out of the car with the 400 and eventually blew it up. I replaced it with a 455 out of a Pontiac Safari wagon and proceeded to beat the hell out of the 455 too.

Eventually I stopped beating the Hell out of the car and pulled it from the road to restore it. It went through a 10 year restoration where EVERYTHING was re-done. It now has a very healthy 400 that is bored .030 over with forged pistons, #13 (Ram Air III) heads that have had some port work done to them, a Crower 60919 cam, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, and a tricked out Rochester Quadrajet carb. The motor puts out around 425HP and all that power runs through a Muncie 4 speed trans back to a 12 bolt posi rear with 3:73 gears. Next year it will receive a Tremec 5 speed trans.

I've had this car for almost 30 years and I will NEVER sell it.

Here is my 83 Toyota SR5 shortbox 4x4. It has 5.29s with a Detroit locker up front, 36" Irok Super Swamper radials on Mickey Thompson Classic II wheels now, soon to get a 3.4 v6 motor. I just took the existing winch bumper off last night and I'm installing a TG low profile winch bumper on it.

Amazing work, you've got some cajones chopping up the floor of any car (let alone a brand new tundra) in the name of audio.

Really wish you'd post details on the front stage and imaging though, you don't see too many people running a 4 way Active set-up with a single amp.

My jellybean! Built 9.5:1 motor, CP temp coated pistons, Carillo HD rods, ported head, 10mm lift 274 duration cams, full Ferrea valvetrain, TRD LSD, yada yada yada Pro-EFI being set up for rolling antilag and traction control through the ABS. The car should make over 1000hp on C16 and will run on 110 octane on the street making anywhere between 600-850hp just depending on which setting I flip the switch to.

It used to be an automatic but I converted it to a 6 speed manual. This is after I drilled the spot welds and chopped the auto subtunnel out.

In all her glory. This was like 5 years ago when I was running the stock twin turbos and automatic transmission.

My old Honda 919. Custom Rizoma bars, levers, mirrors, etc. Custom exhaust, cbr929 header with welded on gp style can. Buell headlamps with carbon windscreen. SS lines and aftermarket rotors. Suspension work.

This thing was a beast. I miss her.
