Post your Pics if you have LC coils as your lift!!

well said! yeah, that .5-1" gets taller though when you go to the 8 wrap coils... Steeze and I went 4wheeling with a buddy at Illinois gulch

You guys came out to illinois?! I woulda love'd to come see your guys rigs! lemme know if you take another trip out here

I think it is a trial name in CO, but i could be wrong, i think that is a lot in gas just to leave CO to go wheeling, seems a bit *ssbackwards.

pardon me for being a newbie... but could anyone clarify what LC coils are? I'm really only familiar with OME coils... are LC coils made by Sonoran? TRD?

LC stands for landcruiser... so we would be referring to toyota landcruiser FZJ80 series. The coils they use for stock will lift our 4runners but the landcruisers were equipped with various coils lengths from 7 wraps to 9 wraps.

and if you are gonna go offroading, i think the LC coils will give you tons more flex than the OME coils for sure..

everyone agree??

yes.

check out the pics of the green 4runner! those are 8 wrap coils flexing! and he still has traction on those wheels! its no FlexINC but its pretty darn cool! :D

wow, that's impressive! haha is that a cheeba hut sticker on the back? I went there today. lol

Is anyone running the Bilstein 5100 shocks with the LC coils? I'm curious about the ride comfort. Would it be possible to just take out the stock rear coils and springs and replace them with the 91 LC coils and Billies to see how high it will lift without breaking anything. I don't plan on driving it around, Just to get an idea of how much lift I will get out of the spring. Are there any other things that need to be done when lifting the rear?

That's what I'd do...just close your eyes and dive in...toss the springs and 5100s in there and see where you're sitting...do before and after measurements from the ground to the fender, and decide how much you want the front to come up to sit level or give you a little rake.
Be the ginuea pig.

what tools are required to do the job? wrench and socket set, floor jack and jack stands? anything else? OH! And i saw a picture of the 5100s installed somewhere and it looked like the rubber boot was on the bottom, I always thought that the rubber boot was the top. Anybody know?

The reservoir should be on the bottom for most direct fit shock applications. As for the install, everything you stated above, plus I would look at bolt-on spring compressors in addition. Depending on the length of coil you may need another 2-3 inches of clearance after unbolting your shocks and sway bar..the axle drop may not be enough to throw it in there...as was the case with mine

i'm running LC's and 5125's(basically the same shock). with my worn 265/70's, ground to the wheel well lip is 39.5 inches. all i did what swap in those shocks and springs, bend the mountubg tab down for the brake line, and gave the rear diff breather a little more slack. i haven't done the panhard rod drop yet but that is gonna happen soon

Your gonna need to get extended links for your stabilizer bar or just go without it, extended brake lines are needed as well as either a panhard drop or adj panhard bar...but thats only if you plan on wheeling with the LC coils.

i'm don't have extended links or the pan hard drop. bending down the mounting tab for the brake line gives it enough room

Just b/c you didn't do it doesn't mean it works correctly. If you put the original links on they are eventually gonna break (Fail), if you don't adjust your panhard bar your axle will be shifted and the runner won't trac straight (Fail), and bending the brake line tab is a temp fix, they will eventually flex too much and snap your brakeline causing the brakes to bleed out and...you guessed it FAIL. Not trying to be a ****, I'm just a believer in "do it right the first time."

AND THEN THE WORLD WILL EXPLODE!!!

but seriously...my 4runner works very well as is. its tracks straight and the brake line has plenty of slack. yes it is a good idea to do all of the things mentioned, but its not a requirement. bending down the brake line tab is not a temp fix either. the line has more slack than the shocks have travel so it will never reach its limit. the only way that it could strech and snap would be if i broke a shock or something and then i will have other problems

LOL, sorry I'm all about the doom and gloom...How do you like the 5125's in the rear? I got some from Steve Schaefer but haven't installed them yet

they are great. paired with the LC coils, they have a good ride and they flex like crazy. i have the shocks from toytec (schaefers might be the same?) that are a eye-to-eye mount with a eye-to-stud adapter at the top which adds an additional pivot point on the top of the shock. i would definitely recommend that combo for the rear of the 3rd gen. i might try to see if i can get toytec to carry LC coils.
