Potential upgrade from '16 to '21

Hi! I'm thinking about upgrading from a '16 trail premium with 164K miles I've had since new to a '21 TRD Pro. I love the lunar rock color. Looking forward to the new head unit as well. I won't be driving as much so hoping this model would hold some value. Dealer's offering me 17k for my car. They're not budging on their 48,994 price... what would be a good deal for this '21 model? Should I walk away? Appreciate any input.

If you just want the Lunar Rock color, with a rig pretty much identical to your Trail Premium in features and offroad capability, you can get Lunar Rock in 2023 TRD Offroad Premiums. Those carry a couple more features over a 2021, namely the heated steering wheel, and rear cross-traffic alert that I can remember. I assume a 2023 ORP is quite a bit cheaper than a 2021 PRO. That, and supply of 2023 ORP Lunars is much larger than 2021 PRO Lunars, along with a 2023 being two years newer and the benefits that brings for longevity. I personally am not a PRO fan, it's a lot of money for different front suspension and a handful of bolt-on accessories.

They'll both hold value strong, but I'm not in the camp that thinks tying up more money in a PRO now is worth the long term opportunity cost of doing so. If maximizing money is the goal, staying in your 2016 is the most logical move.

I can respect the thirst for Lunar Rock. When I ordered my 2023, Lunar Rock vs. Nautical Blue was my toughest decision, and I went with Nautical. But I still look at Lunars and love em.

I wouldn't use a new head unit at all in an upgrade decision. You can spend $550 and get a Dasaita V12 which is vastly superior to the upgraded head units in the '21 model.

Can I value the 2020/2021 (whenever the changeover is) gauge cluster at $200? To me the first two 5th gen clusters are hella uggo, while the most recent gauge cluster is beautiful and I think will age like a fine wine.

Yeah i agree with the other post, that is crazy money for not a lot of changes. If I was paying that much money I would go 6th gen for a lot more differences.

You can also buy aftermarket gauge clusters from $300 - $1000 that are full LCD displays and also vastly superior to the stock, even from the later model 5th gens. Install is very easy too. Wonder if the 20/21 cluster is interchangeable with earlier models? If so, I know you can find those used for $200.

I'm not really the kinda guy that rips up my dash to save $20. In fact, owning a late 5th gen is expensive enough on purchase price that that kind of thing probably doesn't make sense in the first place.

I love a good analog gauge cluster. I vastly prefer the late 5th gen cluster to the 2025+ digital cluster. Physical symmetrical dials for me. Most cars have gone digital by now, but we miraculously have a driveway with a 2019, 2023, and another 2023 vehicle, all of which are still analog clusters
