Potts Mtn VA, info/ride?

I'm looking to get some info on the Potts Mtn. trail. It's relatively close too where I am, and I have been wanting to go for quite some time.

Some basic info im looking for; Is there a time of year that it is closed?( seems that I remember hearing there was)
About how long does it take to run the trail? Its a couple hours away so id like to know if this is a day thing or stay the night thing.
What would you recommend as far as vehicle requirements? I have 32's, rear locker, skids, winch.

And final question, anyone want to get a ride together up there in the next month or so? Snow wheeling is always fun:thumb:

I was up there this past weekend. It is an awesome trail with beautiful views. It is closed from January-April IIRC. There are bypasses around most of the hard stuff. You definitely want to ride with at least one other. It will take around 4-5 hours to complete the trail. there is an awesome camp spot on a meadow about half way through the trail. I highly suggest good armor, mainly skids and sliders, a rear locker, at least 33's, and be prepared to drag your diff everywhere. Watch your driveshaft! I was dragging my diff on 37's, so picking the right line is very important. Check out my build thread, I posted a good amount of pics and vids from the trip.

I should have added that some of the bypasses are no walk in the park. One in particular is a very tight squeeze through some trees, with a sharp left turn up a rock face, and a uphill climb over some more rocks. It is a very fun, challenging trail.

I checked out the pics it looks like a good challenge. It also looks like a pretty low traffic trail?
It sounds like I've got all the armor I would need, the only thing that worries me is clearance with 32's.

You reckon we could get a few people to go up there in sometime in Dec.?

I will not be able to make it up there again this year. I have been twice this year. The first time was in July, me and 4 others. We caught up to a large group and had to wait about 30 min. for them to clear an obstacle, then we set up camp in the meadow while they continued on. The following day we finished the trail without seeing a single other rig out there.

This past weekend we were all alone out there, just a few locals messing around at the end of the trail. It was absolutely beautiful.

You could manage with 32's, as long as you take your time to pick the right line. It's a good idea to have at least one rig come along with a winch just in case. I would definitely not attempt the trail on my own.

Oh, and STAY OUT OF THE MUDHOLES!!!

Awesome, Ill see if I can get a group together on nc4x4, and bump this before I try to make it up there. And who know's I might have my 34's by then (doubtful)

Oh and don't worry, You wont see me anywhere near mudholes
