Powdercoating My LC80 Wheels : Need Opinions

Well, after thinking about it, I do love the stock look of the FJZ rims, but they are just a little too knocked up for my liking, so I'm going to have them powdercoated. I just can't decide what color I want to go. I'm thinking graphite or something along those lines, just probably not black. Maybr bronze?:artist2: Anyways, leave your ideas here if you've got a positive one

So far, (1) for Gunmetal. I'm probably gonna keep it flat. That also depends on the color I end up going with.

If I ever decide to paint or have my wheels powder coated, I'd go for this gunmetal color, it may be hard to match but just something that assimilates the effect. I've always been fond of gunmetal.

I vote for the gunmetal too. Or maybe flat black. I really wanted my wheels in flat black, but Procomp doesn't make them in a Toyota bolt pattern yet. I don't think bronze on the silver would look too good. At least in my eyes.

I think graphite would look cool - you don't see too many that color. Even though I prefer dark wheels on light colored trucks and vice versa.

Are you selling your old 5 Stars? I plan on coming down your way soon, I'm going to explore Petersburg battlefield along with some other Civil War sites in and around VA. I'm getting my Runner ready for the trip now an plan on doing some Pirate camping - sleeping in the truck, just need to find some sites that I can park overnite in.

I wonder if you could get them teflon coated the way some aftermarket wheels come new, graphite/charcoal in color but dirt and mud don't stick to them! That would be badass!

Both of these colors would be my choice also. I saw some graphite one's in person and I am leaning towards graphite for mine...oops, did I say that out loud.. :keyboard:

On a side note, I got a quote for powder coating and they are charging $360-$420 for an set..

what would be an reasonable price?

I agree with the darker color on the lighter trucks, gunmetal (gloss) would look sick! I also think that doing a two tone in the holes would be sweet, either a black or a silver.

I wanna go this route, and keep some definition in the holes (like the 40th LC80's do.) I have calls out to local powder coating companies to get quotes. Sounds expensive.:reddance:

Do the powder coating yourself. Not hard at all. for what they are asking, at least where you are, its what I would do. Sandblast the wheels. Go to harbour freight and get a P.C. set,about $50, and get an old oven. Just like making cookies! Spray em and bake em for 10-15 mins then let em cool. you could then clear P.C. coat if you want but not necessary. My brother and I have been doin our own stuff for years!!! Very easy!!!
