If you have the motor out already, just make sure it is clear of the plastic teeth and reinstall it. Then take your new mast and with the help of another person you can install it from the outside.

They usually come with instructions, but the short gist of the matter is that you turn the key on and wait until the motor stops then feed the mast in with the teeth facing the rear of the car. Then the key is turned off and the motor will pull the mast in as it retracts.

To try and answer your other questions............the aluminum antenna has a tail of plastic teeth attached to the end that is manipulated by the motor to raise and lower the antenna. Most causes of failure are the breaking of the plastic "tail" inside the motor.

A replacement will include the antenna with the attached tail of teeth.

The actual radio connection is made to the motor housing, which I am sure you found out when you removed the motor.

Just replaced mine last week. Mine broke and would not go down either, so I had to open up the motor and get the old teeth out. I ordered one online for about $25, the hardest part was getting in there and removing the old pieces but with the new mast simply feed it right in and then its good to go! Let me know if you would like me to get you the guy that I bought mine from, great service and product and it was sent fast.

I've been meaning to do mine for a month now but I've had to deal with other stuff.

Can you guys post links of where you bought your parts?

Good luck with the aftermarket stuff. I'm pretty good mechanically and the aftermarket unit I bought from Ebay ended up bouncing of the wall of my garage.

I ended up going to Toyota and buying the factory correct replacement and it fit correctly and yes, the terminals were plug and play too.

Beware saving bucks on this one - I wasted a good half of a day on the crap "Universal" unit I bought on Ebay. It was at least 2" too long and when you get in there you will know that space is at a premium. ;-)

Blitzkrieg I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with it. You definitely have to make sure the person you are buying from is legit and do a little research but its easy to get fooled.

Domstriker - here is the link for the one I bought on ebay. It is (OEM) quality and worked perfectly with me. Good luck!
