Power Antenna issue

It works and makes almost no noise but right when I start it up the antenna goes up just fine but them about 20 seconds later it retracts. It won't go up again if I turn the radio off and on. It only goes up if I completely shut the truck off and turn it back on. Searched around but there were much more failure and replacement threads than anything else.

Power antenna relay? I'm kinda shrugging but I'm thinking about just chucking it and doing the taco mod but if it's an easy fix I would rather not spend 50 bucks till I need to.

the relay is right below the radio if you pull of the trim surrounding it. it's brown and in front of the 4wd selector. i just unplugged mine since it started making a horrendous noise since the gears finally let go.

Sounds like the your antenna mast is broken, not a hard fix but make sure you buy a OEM original antenna mast from Toyota, the eBay ones will not work, I tried them.
I just finished fixing mine.

Not much to add but sounds like a good time to swap over to a Tacoma whip antenna. Did mine a while a few years ago when my power one started gettting louder and louder. Cost of the Tacoma assy. was a lot cheaper then the power one.

eBay seller "Raderra" sells masts that work. Several posters confirm:

The others are junk.
I purchased from eBay seller "bluerampin" their power antenna mast does not work on 1999 4Runner SR5. They returned my cost of purchase without an issue.
I can't speak for "Raderra", wish I had heard of them first, I did not try theirs. I know the one I purchased from Cammelback Toyota worked, but expensive.
Hope this helps

Looks like I'm going to do a Taco whip mod. Thanks for the help fellas. At least I know that will solve the problem.
