I have a 99 Limited, I know there known for the power antenna to go out, but when my radio is turned on, it goes up fine, but once its all the way up you can hear it growling like it wants to go up more for about 10 more seconds. When I turn off the radio, it doesnt go down, but still makes a noise as if its trying to. As soon as i turn the radio off, if I go up to the antenna and tap the top of it down ever so slightly, it will go down the entire way no problem! any advice? thanks!

Instead of cutting a wire, I tried to search to see if there was a fuse specific for that I could pull out maybe? And I actually just got an aftermarket radio yesterday, even though it was having this problem before.

Unplug the motor, locate the motor (may need to take off some plastic in the wheel wells) the plug is clipped to the outside of the engine bay. I did this before i fixed mine. You can replace just the plastic rod inside, what i did, its pretty easy and cheap. I reinforced the rod so it wouldent slip on the teeth and strip again.

I love my power antenna. It's old school. It broke once and I fixed it. I get young kids asking, "Hey, what is that, is it part of your radio?" "Why yes, son, it's called an antenna."

That's what i did with mine. Yes you need to get behind the fender liner on the passenger side. I just leave mine up all the time and when I go wheeling I push it down so it won't break.
