Power Hungry! Does anyone make a header for the 4.7 VVT?

I've found some threads about having some built but then the thread just dies. What gives? I have a Gibson exhaust, CHF mod, Afe dryflow filter, and sprint booster. (Only the CHF mod and filter are done so far). About to install sparkplugs after I Seafoam it. Any other roads to more power? I do live in VA so I need to stay legal, but willing to try legit mods. Thanks!

It is a little gizmo that doesn't add any HP, just enhances the "feel" of your fly-by-wire throttle. Some will say its a waste, but that's fine. You drive your truck, I'll drive mine. :)

Awesome. Lol. Great response....454 perhaps? I think the future will be a forced induction with a built up bottom end.

I think that would pretty awesome, unfortunately though, there are not many performance mods for the 2uzfe except for intake/exhaust, Doug Thorley is making some headers though for us 4.7 owners.

If that falls through, you can always modify some Tundra 4.7 headers from the 2005-2006 model year....

I agree. Gears.

The vast majority of "power adders" are going to produce their results, if any, at the top end of your RPM range. If a proven mod consistently produces an extra 50 horsepower, it will NOT be felt at the 1500-3000RPM a typical street-driven vehicle operates at. Even if your new mods produced an extra 20HP at idle (not likely), you still wouldn't feel it, especially in a 4500lb 4Runner. I came from 20 years of racing naturally aspirated Mustangs on the road course. Heads, cams, intakes, exhaust, etc. generally produce results on the top end.

Forced induction (superchargers, turbochargers, and nitrous oxide) may produce low end power, IF you are using the correct set-up.

The best way to produce the neck-snapping, low-end torque you are probably seeking is through more "aggressive" gearing.

The newest thread on headers is alive and well. Almost all the old ones are "dead" but I can assure you the Doug Thorley one is alive and well.

Whats with the attitude???

The only comment that could have been taken as "attitude" was where I was talking about the Sprint Booster and some of the criticism/bashing of it because it doesn't really add horsepower and yet still costs almost $300. Perhaps I should not post after having a scotch and I lose my filter for those that are a little more sensitive.

The other quote you presented had not one thread (pun intended) of "attitude" and I am 99% sure that the individual I was responding to did not take it as such. I really thought his response to my post "a new engine" was funny and a "great response".

Again, I apologize if I offended you or anyone else. This is a place to share ideas and have fun, not engage in verbal combat.

Any thoughts on the topic? I see you have a V8 as well.

Awesome! I had responded to that post where they were they were taking the names of interested folks (I saw a couple other such replies) and hadn't seen any recent additions to the list of names.....thus thought it had died. I'll shoot the OP a IM. Thanks!

I think headers and a new y-pipe would really open this engine up. I was blown away at how restrictive the Y-pipe was....maybe mine was just crushed at some point but holy cow!

If you do get the headers, contact Keith at dirtydeedsindustry (you can find him on the tundratalk and tundrasolutions forums), he can build you an exhaust to fit your power hungry needs. A lot of people on the tundra forums recommend him for high quality and knowledge of exhaust systems.

I'm also in va and power hungry myself would like to do something but doesn't seem to be any more options I'm running a muffler and Cai but want more never done any headers on a vehicle but about how much hp could we expect from a set of headers ? Supercharger would be cool but not in my budget yet ....

NOS nitrous fogger systems start at about $750 at Summit Racing. These are programmable wet systems that have adjustable jets for 35, 50, or 75HP. This is about as economical as it gets to achieve "significant" power gains in the mid-high RPM range of your engine. However, if you are looking for all-the-time, street-usable, low-end torque, then gear the #%^* out of it.

Seems that's the only route , anyways kind of feel like a supercharger this late with this many miles (135k) is asking for problems
