Power Lock Issue on 2001 t4r

My power locks aren't working on either the keyless entry or the button (either door). The owners manual says that they are on a fuse with the power back window and some other electrical items (which still work).

Does anyone know of another fuse or switch that could be causing this problem? The previous owner mentioned another fuse behind the fuse box? I see nothing related to this in the owner's manual...

its a relay behind the fuse panel under the steering wheel column. However, the relay is on a board the contains relays and fuses for a bunch of different electrical components. You might be able to replace just the relay on the board, but to get to it you will most likely destroy the case that it is in. The unit varies in cost from depending on what year you have. Mine was about $200 but I have seen other years cost about $400. Ill look to see if I can find that actual part description since I replaced it about 2 years ago. Maybe someone else on here remembers the part name.

The part that you will need is item [2] in which there are 2 options. One for trucks with engine immobilizer option and the other is without it.

It took me about 20min to replace it and put everything back together. You will have to take the dash cover off under the steering wheel. I think it has either 3 or 4 bolts that hold the junction block to the body. Then just take off all the electrical connectors that are connected to the back of it. Then reverse the process for the new one. Connections are idiot proof. Its impossible to put a connector in the wrong spot so you will not have to worry about keeping track of what connector goes where when you are removing them

I would suggest shopping around for this part. There are other parts centers that offer discounts for toyota OEM parts on the internet that may or may not have a lower price. I just happen to use this site because its easy to remember the web address.

AT a cost of $400 I would also recommend trying to see if you might be able to find the correct part at a junkyard. Some may offer a 30 day warranty. Not sure how much cheaper it would be or if you would get the correct part. Some junkyards inventory parts more accurately than others. Just a suggestion.

There is an under hood fuse that will kill the power locks too. I chased mine for quote a while after I changed my lift gate. I'll go out to my truck and check it on my way home. It's like a 10 amp fuse with a three letter name that ends in X I believe

GOOD INFO!!! I was not aware of this, obviously. Apparently toyota made some changes, Im thinking after 2000. Going through the EWD for my 99, this fuse strictly for door locks does not exist. I know in my case, the part I replaced resolved my issue.

The fuse I was referring to is the MPX-B (multiplex-blah blah) fuse. It's a standard 15 amp fuse located roughly in the middle of under hood fuse block. I had no power locks (interior button didn't work and the key would only open the door it was inserted into) and it fixed my problems.

Took me hours a troubleshooting in the fsm to come up with it as a possible culprit for me, so I'm more than happy to spread any possible fix that isn't a $200 repair

I just wanna kill the locks

My locks will intermittently go on an unlocking frenzy, usually when I'm driving but sometimes when I'm away from the car. I've tried unplugging the plug from the drivers armrest but it doesn't help. I've tried pulling the engine compartment fuse but that didn't help. I don't need to unlock them electronically.

How can I stop the insanity?

I just did it about an hour ago, but I did not have time to shoot vid. It was kind of pain, mostly fumbling around and getting all those little bastard connectors unhooked. Took me about 30 mins. Cost was $230 from Toyota parts deal.

Yes it fixed my locking problem and everything works great again.

Mine would unlock but not lock at all from the door or keyfob.

Part for 2005 4Runner

I’m trying to find this fuse block assembly for under the steering wheel for my 2005 4Runner. I haven’t been able to find the part number and therefore can’t find one online to purchase.

Any help out there?
