Power Problems

1990-22RE

New member
Hi All,
I am a 4Runner newbie, and have a 1990 4Runner with a 22RE engine and automatic transmission. The car seems to run fine when cold, but as soon as it heats up a little, it loses a ton of power between 2000-3500 RPM. It behaves as one would expect between 1000-2000 and 3500-redline, but loses maybe 75% power in the 2000-3500 RPM range. Since this is an automatic, this problem really makes the car un-driveable at city speeds.
All fluids have been recently changed. I think this is either a fuel, air, or electrical problem. The problem presents itself in all four gears so I figure it isn't the transmission. I think it started on a particularly wet day, so I am going to check the air filter, vacuum hoses, and some of the wiring Today.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem with their 2nd gen? Anyone got any pointers on where to start?

Cheers
