Powerstop Z23's, any good?

Hey all!

Has anyone had any experience using the PowerStop Z23 Evolution brake kit from JC Whitney?

Im looking to replace the brakes all the way around on my 07 SR5 and these seem like they are really well priced with almost no negative reviews. Pretty stoked that its discs all the way around!! Has anyone used these before or known anyone who has? Any idea as to how these stack up against OEM?

Im not sure yet if Ill need to do the rotors but would appreciate any advice you could give on those as well.

This summer I installed similar Powerstop kit (my was front only, but exactly same components). I made upgrade from smaller original rotors to bigger ones as I was replacing calipers as well at the same time. I'm really happy how this kit performs and this is major improvement from OEM components when it comes to stopping power/performance. I'm also blown away how little dust this kit produces. I used OEM, Reybestos and NAPA pads and these ceramic pads beats them all. I really recommend this kit especially considering the price.

Thanks for the input Para, I really appreciate it!!! Do you have any recommendations on the rotors and calipers you used, for future reference? I think right now I just need to replace my pads and discs but itd be good to know just in case.

I did this kit from Rock Auto and my only complaint is that the front pad have slightly oversized holes for the pins than OEM so they click right at first application. I've tried to soften their movement with antirattle clips on both top and bottom instead of just the top. The clips that came with the pads fell out but OEM replacement clips are a much tighter fit/stop the click. Other than that the performance is awesome. No squeals, low dust, good wet performance, great hot performance. I have the bigger "sport" sized rotors and did new calipers with stainless lines at the same time because the lines were cheap on rock auto too.

On the picture above you can see OEM reman calipers (silver paint) from toyotapartsdirect. On the other side I have NAPA premium caliper installed (black paint). Its too early to tell which caliper will last longer but overall rebuild quality of the OEM reman unit is much higher. All new pistons and seals installed on OEM reman unit vs all old cilynders with some scratches on walls used on NAPA caliper. The bonus is NAPA caliper has lifetime warranty so if they ever seize they can be replaced indefinitely.

I put just the fronts on my wifes '03 sport and they made a huge difference. I ended up putting them on my '03 sr5 front and rear when I bought it.

I have installed around a dozen of these powerstop/autoplicity kits. I recommend checking Amazon, as they are usually cheapest and free shipping. I used to always use Napa stuff, but in the last 2 years I think they changed suppliers or something as I was having a lot of issues all of a sudden. I have now started using these kits for the last few years. Installed them on all my families cars and friends. Hondas, Subarus, Nissans, Chevy trucks, Toyota 4 runner and Tacoma. All with great results. My favorite one was on our 08 IS250. The Lexus brakes are good, but crazy dusty. Now they are even better at braking, and almost zero dust.

Thank you all for your advice, it sounds like this is definitely the way to go. Im going to order them off of Amazon for sure, Im a Prime member and theyre almost $50 cheaper than JC Whitney.

I just replaced all 4 corners with PowerStop rotors and ceramic pads. I had EBC Greenstuff pads with stock rotors before and the brake dust was constantly dirtying my rims. While I would rate the performance about the same, the reduction in brake dust is worth the cost alone. Only time will tell how they hold up.

I put in Powerstops on my 04 with Akebono pads and wish I'd found this combo long ago. Could've saved money over the NAPA and EBC stuff I've installed before. They perform amazingly- better than any other combination of stuff I've had installed. I'm hard on stuff and these are holding up well and as others have said- a fraction of the dust as the EBC's.

Last night when doing a front wheel bearing on mine I did find that there was what appeared to be a bunch of mud packed in the slots and holes, no mud was packed in the vented area though. Might just be I need to clean them better after going offroad or true wheelers use solid rotors to avoid this much like the "mudproof" rotors on dirtbikes?

Im not sure if itll change at all for yours but that should get you started. With Prime shipping plus some 10% off coupon, my total came out to around $250 for everything, which is a f$*%ing steal!!!

Theres a DIY auto shop in Denver where I live so Ill probably head over there next week for a couple hours and knock this out, will try to take as many pics as possible!

Hey all, just wanted to update this thread after my first attempted install.

The K2422 part # is for the 338 mm rotors, just a heads up. I tried to install and was getting a rubbing on the plate that sits between the rotor and the axle. As a result, I am now reordering the 319mm set which is part # K138. Its still all 4 rotors and 8 pads, but smaller in size.

I dont know if anyone else has had this issue, and if so, what did you do to resolve it? Did you have to bend or remove the plate, and if so, have you had any issues as a result? I didnt want to alter or modify the plate at all, so thats why I reordered the smaller size, and figured since Im not towing, and most of my braking offroad is "holding" anyway, I dont really need more surface area.

Anyway, hope I can save someone a headache. On the plus side, Amazon customer service is absolutely awesome. No run around, no questions asked, just reordered the proper part and theyre refunding me for the imporoper one on receipt.
