Hello. I have TLC PRADO2005 in Ukraine. And now I'm thinking about changing it on 4runner. Is There any sence? Has anybody compared these two SUVS?

I have to do some research but isn't the Prado the equivalent of Lexus GX470 in USA? I think that the Prado is Lexus GX470 with the rear tire carrier. If so, then these two SUVs (Prado & 4runner) share the same platform (frame, suspension). The transmission and engine may be different due to availability of diesel in your country.

EDIT: i just researched...is your Prado 2-door or 4-door?? If it's two-door, then your Prado has more in common with the Toyota FJ Cruiser in USA.

OK, sit down, here it goes:

Prado vs. 4Runner:
Since you live in Ukraine, these descriptions apply to non-US versions of the 4Runner.

The Prado and 4Runner share the same Chassis, and until 2005 they shared the same 3.0 liter Turbodiesel engine.

The Prado has a full time 4WD system, while the 4Runner has a standard part-time 4WD.

The Prado has a more luxurious interior, and comes standard with third row seats.

Since the Prado is taller, it has more headroom, which also makes it more unstable, more prone to rollover and crosswind.

It's also a little heavier, so with the same engine the 4Runner is quicker.

In my country, the full featured Prado costs US$12,000 more than the 4Runner limited.

Also, starting on 2006 the 4Runner is no longer available with a Diesel engine, since it's now designated to the U.S. and Japan markets.

The Fortuner is the new Diesel option available in the 4Runner price Range. It's narrower and less refined than the 4Runner (rear drum brakes, no sunroof available, no electric seats, etc...).

So, depending on fuel prices in Ukraine and how far you travel, you can decide if Diesel is a priority.

Hope this helps!,

Offroader. :)

Exactly, the Prado is equivalent to the GX470, just like the Land Cruiser is equivalent to the Lexus LX 470.
Just a little more wood trims and electronics inside.

In ukraine: Prado 2.7 - no leather 45 500
prado 4.0 - base 58 000
prado 4.0 - lux 70 000
If I will buy 4runner I will do it directly from US. There are no 4 runner's at official diller center. This SUV is only for US market.
It will cost - price in US + 53%. That's why it is better to buy runner for 50 000 with 4.0 engine then a 2.7 prado. 4runner is better and more lux in interior then base prado. Max speed of prado 160 kph. But prado has a great suspension and offroad potential. And we have too many PRADO and no 4runners :))
I have 120000 mileage nothing had break down. Sorry for my english :)
all prices are in $$$$$$$$.

The interior of your Prado is identical to the interior of the Lexus GX470 in the US. Just replace the silver trim with wood and that is the only difference. I am assuming the differences between the GX and 4Runner are the same as the differences between the Prado and 4Runner. How does the liftgate on your Prado open? A major difference between the GX and 4Runner is the GX's liftgate open to the side and the 4Runner's liftgate opens up and down.

It looks like the Prado in the pictue is not an automatic? It would be nice to have the 4Runner with a 5 or 6 speed standard transmission option.:)

I thought they drive on the right in the Ukraine?

Photo of interior is from internet. Yes we drive on the right. And the door opens to the side. The main diffrence as i understood is exterior. The one that looks better that one is better!

One more question! Is there any problems with 4runner? I heared there are many problems with sunroof.

Thanks !!!

Some common issues/problems are: the seat(s) either loose or squeaking, most I think are the manual seats (I don't know for sure since I have power seats on both and I think for 2006 all trims have power seats too, except V6 SR5 in the US), moonroof as you mentioned, the driveshaft clunk and the exhaust sulfur smell.

I haven't experienced any of the above yet, but I do have a flicking clock/mileage computer/HVAC display. Overall, despite some small annoyances, it's still a very solid truck and if needed, I would buy another in heartbeat.

NO, it doesn't make sense to replace your Prado for a 4Runner. Prado is superior. It will be more expensive to get service and parts for a 4Runner in Ukraine, and you will have no dealer warranty. Any small collision where you have to replace parts would be a nightmare.

Also, how tall are you? The 4Runner doesn't fit well for tall people.

I'm not tall. But I'm already in love with 4runner! I have 2.7 PRADO and the main reason for changing is engine! The mirrors are standart in chrome packege.

Is gasoline cheap in Ukraine or you only travel short distances?

Or maybe you're rich enough to waste money on gasoline?
