Pre Purchase Questions: Trail Ed??

I'm looking at purchasing this 4runner:

Used 2011 Toyota 4Runner SR5 For Sale| Louisville| Nicholasville |Lexington|Used Cars

Issue is, I'm in Houston and would need to pay for it and have it shipped to me sight unseen. Dealer gave me the option of having it taken back to their shop and I could discuss it with the tech or hiring my own mechanic to come check it out. Obviously having an independent mech w/ no incentive would be ideal but also a PITA logistically. I'd be interested in hearing any specific questions I should ask the tech but my main question is regarding the trim level. The first site I located the vehicle on had it listed as a Trail Edition. There are obviously some trail edition features when going through the photos, such as the manual transfer case and what appears to be controls on the overhead console. However, there is an SR5 badge on the vehicle itself. So I'm lost as to what exact model this is? Anyone in the Nicholasville, KY area? LoL

This looks like a base SR5, the ad doesn't list anything about TE features

You're right. Also, I was reading the Carfax wrong and it looks like this one actually spent the majority of its life in Canada. I imagine rust will be a major concern (you can see how much the air intake clamp is rusted in one photo).

Good luck with the search, there are a ton of used 4R's here in TX, check out the CenTex dealers. You may want to wait as well, going into October means the price swings in used vehicle sales.

Thanks for the heads up. I've noticed prices have gone up slightly in our area due to all the buyers after the hurricane. My wife and I went into an autonation dealership and you had to go to the front desk and request a salesperson because they were so busy. Salesman we dealt w/ admitted they had raised prices on the lot with the increased traffic.

The rockers, bumpers, and black trim suggest a Trail Edition, but the wheels are SR5. Can you get more dash pics to see if there is a locking diff button?

Edit: Canadian 2011 SR5's came trimmed out like Trail Editions. So there it is.

It's a Canadian SR5. They came from the factory like this. I, too, would be concerned about the rust. There should be a bajillion for sale in your area.

Edit: Poster above beat me to it.

That's a Canadian model 4Runner
