I'm new to this game, and I have no idea where the limit would be. I'm not sure what would cause overextension, and I don't really want to push that. You won't w/ a .75" thick spacer (net 1.5" lift). If you went with a 3" total lift and it was all top-space maybe. I did my spacers and while apart I flexed it down. My guess is you'd have to be well in excess of 2" of extra droop and maybe even a full 3" of extra droop before you'd have an issue. With you suggesting the topout, I'm assuming the preload would hurt the ride quality? This is argued back and forth regularly. IMHO, when talking about a spacer of .75" (1.5" total lift) or less it probably doesn't matter much. The top-spacer will ride a bit better in some situations but that because of the extra droop IMHO. When you think about spacers and struts in a 'free state' it seems like there would be a big difference. Once you think about it with the 4500lb 4Runner sitting on it the theoretical advantage of one spacer design over the other all but diminishes, IMHO. Remember, even with a preload spacer the T4R won't be topped out at rest, not even close. The amount of spring compression at rest will be identical. I'm also still open to just doing a 1 inch topout instead of the 1.5 inch, but I'm not too sure at the moment. If I lift I want it to be the right amount, and IMO 1.5 inches is just perfect. Any more input on this will be greatly apprecaited. If 1.5" is the goal you need a spacer with a thickness of approx. 3/4" of an inch.
