Sorry for hijacking the post, but I can't post a new thread and I need help finding a
TRD 7th injector ECU. Bought a kit off ebay and it had the wrong ECU. I need the
correct ECU for a 2000 4Runner- part # 00602-17620-265. I have one for an "01-'02
T4R + '02-'03 Taco #00602-17620-270. Willing to buy, sell or trade to get the one I
need. Maybe some one has one laying around they don't need anymore.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

Awesome story though. Inspires me to save up and do a multi-month road trip sometime!!

That's a really cool journey.

In the comments he says it cost about $45k, and if they did it again, they could probably do it for $30k. About $3k a month isn't bad at all, considering all the traveling and places they saw. That's what a lot of people pay to stay in one spot!


I am a little concerned with this statement:
"Coming out of the 'altiplano' of Boliva/Argentina/Chile, we rode down into wine country. We worked our poor brakes hard, several times smoking them and having to pull over to the side of the road and letting them cool off. I found it best to pay attention and quickly pull over before I let my wife know we couldn't stop. "

Do people not know to put the car (if automatic) in 1st or 2nd gear? Driving down Pikes Peak was so much easier for my 4runner, compared to the idiot pickup in front of me who had it in D, riding his brakes before eventually having to pull off and cool his brakes.

My favorite part was his quote "We bought an old 4Runner" and headed out on a 50k road trip. This continues to solidify my plan to head West for a few weeks on an expedition trip with my wife.

The trip seems like it was really beautiful and amazing. What was even more amazing was that they took a 3rd Gen with 250K plus miles on such an awesome journey. It just proves how reliable these vehicles are and how much faith and trust we put in the reliability.

That'll be us in 18 months! Come June 2017 we're both walking away from our jobs (again) to travel until the money runs out. The goal is to be out for about 2 years, and then relocate somewhere west.

We're mostly going to travel around the US, but could venture north/south of the boarder. Plan on hiking the Colorado Trail, Florida Trail, and we're talking about the PCT.

Ha makes you realize what total gear queers most of us are. Looks like the just kept everything stock, did some basic maintenance and headed off? I don't think I could deal with that I like to have a contingency plan and a backup contingency plan.

The PCT is awesome, I've hiked many portions of it in California. If you are really hard core and want to hike a large portion (I only know 2 people that have the whole trail) start north of the desert in California. Yes, California has a desert. No, there isn't much water, which is why you should start farther north!

P.S. most of PCT south of Tahoe has snow on the ground through June. On a really good snow year the snow never melts!

We're long distance hikers, and finishing the PCT would get us close to the Triple Crown. Just need to hike the CTD in addion, but we don't really have much desire to hike the entire CDT right now. When we hit the PCT we'll be hiking the entire, and snow shouldn't be an issue. If you start in April the trail will be blazed through all the snow by time we got there.
