Pretty sure I have a leaky Rear Main Seal

How bad is it to drop the tranny?

1997 3.4 Auto 2wd

Seems like it would be pretty easy

disconnect driveshaft, undo bell housing bolts and linkages, drop tranny crossmember.

Or it could be the tranny gasket which have been known to leak also which is what happened to mine just last week but I had the rear seal done also while it was apart. The good news the tranny looked really good with minimal wear on the important parts.

Thanks for the info. and link. One of these days I am gonna get under it and clean it up and pinpoint exactly where it is coming from. I am due for an oil change so I think I am gonna go with a little thicker oil until I can gather up some time and money.

If it does end up being the rear main I am gonna take a few days and change that, the oil pan gasket and the valve cover gasket and hopefully not have to worry about any leaks for a long time.
