Previous maintenance question...

Hey Ive been lurking the forums for a while since I bought my 3rd gen but over the last week I purchased my first 4th gen and figured it was time I registered...

Now to my question... on the carfax at around 70k it stated this:

Front brake pads replaced and rotors resurfaced
Recommended maintenance performed
Automatic transmission fluid flushed
Drive belts replaced

What would recommended maintenance and drive belts (plural) replaced include?

The car currently has 118k right now and if the timing belt hasnt been replaced I would like to get it done soon.

Is there a way that I can find out exactly what was done? The dealership that performed the work is listed. Would they have a detailed record?

If I dont have to do the timing belt right now it would open some room up for some mods!

Also, I registered the vin on the Toyota Owners website and the service listed on the carfax was not listed.

Probably just the serpentine belt. If the TB was done by someone with half a brain - there should be a sticker on the fan shroud or in the engine bay area stating it was completed. If not, do it and the plugs, and the water pump and a coolant flush and use all OEM parts. Yep, I used and a lot just then.

edit, NVM, didn't read your post completely.

The dealer should have a complete record of the maintenance - the question is if they'd share it with you. If you've actually purchased it I think they'd be inclined to tell you. They probably didn't change the timing belt at 70k - just too early.

Only if the service was done at a Toyota dealer could they provide the info for you. The OP said they couldn't find any records.

Carfax only reports what is reported to them. Do NOT rely on them to give you a accurate report. If Carfax shows that something was wrong then it's probably true...but lack of anything reported doesn't mean it didn't happen. One estimate is Carfax only has less then 1% of all maintenance and reported problems on all cars sold in the US...That means that over 99% is MISSING...

I agree. I traded in a T4R and I checked the Carfax. It didn't have all the maintenance record from the Toyota Dealer.:lightsaber: ToyotaOwners.com and the Toyota dealer had all the maintenance history.

The toyotas owners site only has toyota dealer repair inquiries. So, if carfax has it, the work was probably not done at a dealer.

I had the same issue when I bought my 05 SE V8, luckily for me, the vehicle was Toyota Certified and all maintenance/repairs were done at the dealer by the previous owner.

I will more than likely go ahead and get the timing belt and water pump done...The dealership quoted me around $500 which isnt too bad

Damn! $500 for timing and water pump? Thats a steal!

I was quoted last month @ $800!!! :jaw drop: Damn stealerships..........

That's a steal - make sure you double check what they're doing.

I paid over $2k on the cruiser; however, I got EVERYTHING done.

He said the name of the dealer that did the work was listed on the Carfax. He could call that shop, Toyota or not, and see what repair was work was done there.
