ok....we have all seen where people post about crazy prices....but this week in my town....one came up at 15999 at a dealer...179k....but the front seats are cloth and the rear leather...no records...not even license plates...just temp plates
today a private person posted one at 14.9, at 240k with some records
and the next big town from me posted one at 16.9.
thats the only 3 gens for sale within 400 miles....thats nuts

yes mines a little beat...but I only paid 4500 for it a year ago

Yeah, clown world ain’t it? There’s lots of 5 digit 3rd gens now on market place.

My property assessment went up a simply hilarious, practically cartoonish amount.

No joke. My house has tripled in value in 9 years but if I were to sell, I would not be able to afford anything.

Trying not to get controversial but the prices of real assets like homes or property (and dare I say vehicles) aren't going up. Your dollar is losing value because of inflation - and fast.
 
People Asking $10~12k within 250 miles of me, but they're not moving.

I have $10~11k in mine for Just the purchase and parts, no labor costs. Now that there's an FJ60 in the stable, I'd gladly sell for what I have in it to try and add a more economical (read: econobox) DD to the driveway. Plans have changed and the need for a 4wd/awd DD have evaporated faster than the current inflation.

If our other car wasn't a hybrid sedan I'd be in the exact same situation. It's getting really hard to pay $90 for 15 gallons of gas. I don't drive my 4Runner but a couple of times a week now.

yep a daily with more than 30mpg 2wd would be good. for me only good for about 4 months a year....unless I started driving a awd subbie...but i dont like them and we have 2 in the family. so now i limit my trips to the city.and the daily roads I drive...well some of you only see those conditions one or two times a month in summer off roading...and the subbies take a beating getting to town and back....low ground clearance. I will stick with my OLD gas guzzler 4wd 4runner that can take a beating and Id rather be in a wreck with it then lots of things out there...including the fam subies.. but thats me....im set in my old ways, guess it depends on where you live and the roads you have to drive.
now if I could only get it to run on beer piss...a joke a neighbor said

It is truly crazy. I bought my 2001 in January for 6800 w/ 180k. With all the maintenance and some unknown records it was still pretty steep.

About 10 years ago I was blindsided by a 2nd Gen 4Runner at a red at 50 MPH. He flipped his 4Runner with 3 people in the back plus the driver and all three walked away with no injuries. A year later I bought this 4Runner. I agree completely about the safety piece as I've seen it firsthand.
 
I used to run Cameys for a DD until someone pulled out in front of Me in the winter of 2015. Being 6 3 and some meat on my bones. My head hit the sunroof compartment and this was only 35 mph heavy on the brakes before impact. My shins went into the dash pads. Luckily, I didn't break anything. But it took 6 months for my leg ligaments to fully heal and let me bend down completely without pain. This is when I went back to the full frame on body rides.

I want nothing to do with the Coffins on wheels when we are in the road with tri axles and semi tractor trailers.

However, this us me.. :)

Pricing on everything is insane. I actually picked 3rd gens for my work beaters because they are frame on body. They have cast blocks with extremely long longevity engines and drive Trans.

I actually threw one together in the fall of 2015 to replace my camry. With 208k on it and really rotted frame. With rockers rotted out . I am still driving it at 285k and it just purs along. I now actually have to go back now and fix my learning how to weld patches that were done in 2015 because this was the experimental vehicle.

As the back half of my frame was plate over the steel. When I did my front half. I actually already switched to internal plating.

Methods to my madness. Along with learning to do things better. I have fixed 3 3rd gen frames thus far.

The point on this post is to prove these vehicles are very reliable and dependable along with handle crashes well. So if your going to buy older used rigs if they are properly maintained. This generation is a good rig that holding value. While other sport utilities don't. :)
