Price for engine replacement w/ labor for the V6?

So I'm probably going to go look at a 4th gen 190k miles. It's listed for $4,500, quite a bit under the going price, but apparently it's making some "internal engine noise". I'm going to have a shop do a pre-purchase inspection and see what they say. Worst case scenario it's a rod knock or something and the entire engine needs to be replaced.

I've read this could run $3-$5k with labor. Thoughts?

I"d make sure everything else is ok. Check the tranny for fluid changes, check the transfer as they sometimes stop working due to inactivity. Does it have XREAS? You don't give us much info of the condition of the truck to say if it's worth it.

I have no idea on cost but I say skip it and find one without "internal engine noise", the cost plus repairs puts you in the realm of price where you can find something really decent if your patient . Just my .02.
