Price Toyota (New Castle, DE)

I bought a new '05 Toyota 4Runner Ltd. at Price Toyota in New Castle, DE in mid- July '05. This was my 4th new car purchase, and the most pleasant one I have had so far. I requested pricing over the internet, got a price that was acceptable, drove to the dealership that weekend, and was signing paperwork after a 15 minute test drive (I already knew I liked the 4Runners from driving friends').

Now, I certainly didn't pay invoice like I have heard a lot of people claim, but I paid about $1000 over invoice which was still over $4K off the sticker, and I didn't have to haggle. They also gave me $400 over Kelly's Blue Book trade-in value for my Acura TL too. I am under no delusions that the dealer didn't made good money off me, but I was happy with the deal, so that was all that mattered to me.

Anyway, if you are in the Delaware area, and want a decent deal without an hour of haggling, talk to Oscar Rivera at Price Toyota.

I'll post more once I find out how good their service is, but I have heard good things.

I traded my Acura TL for a 4Runner just last month ....

Mine was a 1996 --- amazing vehicle. My only complaint was that parts for it were very pricey.

I was actually fairly dissapointed in my '00 TL versus the Honda Accord and Acura Integra (which I LOVED) I have had in the past. Maybe I just got unlucky, but in the last three years I owned it ('03 to '05), I had three sets of warped rotors, A/C refrigerant leak, 2 computer chip malfunctions, replaced the tranny (at 68K mi), replaced the drivers side airbag (the horn stopped working, and a malfunction in the airbag caused that), plus I had a rattle in the door that drove me crazy, and never did find the cause. Fortunately most of this was under warranty, but what a PITA.

This is my first Toyota, and so far I love it. Hopefully I'll have better luck with the quality issues! From what I hear from most Toyota owners, this isn't a problem.

I'm interested in level of service at Price. I've used ToyotaWorld for all my service, since I bought my 4runner there, but I've been less than impressed.

I'm curious, what was you buying experience like at Toyotaworld? I couldn't even get anyone there to call me back, and I told them I was ready to buy that weekend. I finally got a call a week later (after I bought from Price) wanting to make a deal. Seemed kind on uninterested in me as a customer, so I wasn't hip on trying their service center.

Anyway, the only feedback I can give you is I have two friends with Toyotas (one Tundra, one Tacoma) that have used both, and say that Price is worlds above ToyotaWorld in service. Interesting because apparently they are also owned by Price. I also know that Price has bought out the space behind them and are quadrupling there capacity. Not sure when this is happening.

I'll reserve judgement until I try for myself and will post here with my experience.

Here is my experience back 1 year ago. I went to Price first, and they didn't have any SR5's with a 6. The salesman was trying to convince me that for the price they were offering the 8's at, I should just buy an 4runner with the 8. I asked about the purchase price, and he gave me the Price policy of "Our best price is already on the windshield". So, there was nothing on the lot I wanted, they weren't willing to find me what I wanted, and the price was not negotiable.

Toyotaworld (Part 1). Bad experience, salesman was a joke.
Toyotaworld (Part 2). I went back and asked for a different salesman, told them I wasn't happy with the first one, and I ended up with a great experience. They didn't have what I wanted either, but found one 150 miles away and made the deal to get it. I worked hard to get a deal I was comfortable with, but it was worth it.

Service has been a mixed bag. My most recent experience with rear brake problems was handled well. They fixed the problem the first time I had it in--good experience.

Other issues were not as good. I had acid pits on three pieces of glass, passenger side rear door (2 pieces) and rear quarter glass. I didn't notice them until I washed the truck for the first time, about 1 week after purchase. I took it in, they didn't want to accept responsibility. Anyway, they finally agreed to order new glass. After 2 weeks I called to see how the order was going, and they had forgotten to order to glass. So, another 2 weeks, and it finally comes in. I drop the truck off for the day, and when I return to pick up the truck, they give it to me, and say its all finished. I go out to leave, and nothing had been done! They track down the guy who worked on it, and he admits that he didn't actually replace all the glass. So, now I need to leave it there another day.

It finally was fixed, and I've not had any problems with it. I've been comped with free oil changes b/c of my problems, and I've been back since, but they are one more screw up away from losing my business.

It is so interesting how different sales people/service personnel can make the difference in a great experience versus a crappy one. I can't believe the guy didn't replace the windshield and thought you wouldn't notice! What an idiot. That would sure make me leary... makes you wonder what they are not doing UNDER the hood that they are supposed to when you get a service. Thanks for sharing!

Had my 5,000 mile oil change/tire rotation with Price Toyota of DE last week.

Good experience. Friendly service. I waited while they did it, and it only took about 40 minutes. Looks like they did everything they were supposed to. Plus I had my coupon for free oil change, so I was out of there for $30 something for the tire rotation.
