Prices of 1st gen 4runners increasing?

Makes me glad I found mine for $800 in the summer of 07! 
I'd agree from up here in Alaska. I looked for about a year till I found mine. If it was rusted and running, $1500. if it wasn't rusted and had only minor problems $2000. Good body and runs good...they don't exist!
I bought a good body, runs OK with junky interior for $800 and just towed home a parts runner with good interior for $150

Generally, the trucks I see come up are in better shape(lower miles, more care & maintenance, etc.). There is also a fair bit of price inflation on vehicles and limiting of credit which has probably made certain persons turn to the used market. There are probably people keeping cars now much longer due to the economy. Having just been to the dealer(toyota: steering relay rod recall), they have not increased the efficiencies very much, or if at all on the newer gen 4runner/FJ. It would be nice to see a little bit higher mpg then what our old 1990 beater gets.

When I insured my 85 4runner, USAA said that 85 4runners were expected to increase in value in the next 6 months and due to the value I was able to get full covarge on a 23 year old vehical

800's what i paid for mine, w/ bad head gasket. I got lucky though most of the ones Ive seen on craigslist have been in the 2/3000 range. So i know i made a good investment! :bluejump:

Hi all:hello: I have two 4x4 4Runners, a 1994 SR5 V6 auto and a 1988 DLX with a 22RE 5 spd.
The 94 I bought for $3,500 with 122K miles and it, it is a 9 out of 10 in condition. The truck has never been off road and I have never taken it off road. I have put 12K miles on it since I bought it and I have had no issues with it at all.
I am sure when the time comes to sell it, it will sell for at least what I paid for it even with the higher miles.
The 1988 I bought is going to replace my 94 when I am finished with the restoration. I bought the rust bucket with 130K miles for $1,000.
I like the first gen a little better than the 2nd gen plus I will get better fuel mileage with the older truck.

I picked up a 88 runner last year for 1400 and the tranny crapped out on me two months later....

I've been looking for a 1st gen on craigslist for the last week and I haven't seen any that are still running for less than $1500 in my area.
I haven't had the luxury of seeing the interior of a 1st gen. I like some of the aspects of it like the removable top. Would the back seats fit car seats?
What do you guys think is a 1st gen worth paying $1500 when you can get a 2nd gen for a little bit more? Second gen has the 4d option, and v6. None of the 1st gens I've seen have a v6.
Maybe it's all about a preference thing?

Depends on if you want a removeable top or not. If you do, then 1st gen is the only choice. If not, then all other gens, actually the 3rd gen would probably be the best with the 3.4l 5vzfe motor. I wouldn't recommend the 1st and second geneartion 4runners with the 3.0 3vzfe motor, too many head gasket problems, and the motors are just slow. If you want a good reliable 1st gen, get one with a 5 speed and a 22re 4 cylinder engine. As far as interiors go, the 2nd gen is a little more comfortable than the 1st gen because of the 4 doors, but other than that, I would take a 1st gen over any generation 4runner ever. If you need more power in a 1st gen, you can always do an engine swap to a small block chevy, or even the 3.4l 5vzfe toyota motor.
