Pricing? 3rd Gen 4Runner with Ultra Low Miles

Glad to see I get under your skin so badly.

There's realistic prices, then there's whatever the hell you're going on about. The OP stated 8500, which is relatively realistic. Flipping it for a $10k profit, you're out of your God damned mind.

You're not under my skin, you are either misunderstanding my point or are just wrong. The mid 2000's middle schooler AIM group chat type of response does not really help to prove right from wrong. Again, I didn't create these numbers. This is what similar examples sell for. Look at some ebay listing once in a while and you will be surprised. I was skeptical at first as well, but I guess the values have gone up sooner than I expected. Considering this vehicle segment is nearly dead today, I guess it makes sense. Again, what you pay is what you think is right, but that doesn't necessarily follow what is happening in the market.

Thanks for all the replies, I thought I'd get bashed for posting a "pricing" thread like this. However, I (painfully) decided not to check it out this morning as I don't "need" another 4Runner.

I had a few people on here PM me for details so hopefully someone who will enjoy it ends up with it. For reference, the private party seller is asking $8500 and is in the process of getting all service records printed from the local dealer this morning. Looked like a total cream puff other than some Indiana surface rust.

I would pay $8500. No problem.

I've seen these threads/posts/listings of people asking these absurd amounts, but not once have I seen one actually sell for those prices. Sure, the occasional clean and well maintained '02 goes for $11-12k, but that isn't even that common. You're failing to recognize that asking price doesn't equate to actual selling price.

OP: pm me the plate number, and I'll get you a carfax report if you want. Pictures? How clean is it?

I think I got a smoking deal on my '96 at $3200 (super clean inside and out) with 234k miles, but I'll probably spend another $500-$700 to get it driving nice again (laundry list of small issues). Then another $2000 for coilovers and upper arms, haha.

Most 4runners I see around here (Denver, CO) have 200k+ on them (including both of our 3rd gens:D) and asking prices are still anywhere between 4k-6k. Nice, clean +elocker varients go even higher. Never even seen a 4runner for sale with that low of miles. I would think easy 10k out here in CO, if not more.

Clearly you clueless about the current value of 3rd gens! I just sold a 99 limited with 200k on it for 6800, it sold within 24 hours of being posted. I've been offered 13k for my current 99 with 91k miles so for you say that a 3rd gen with 43k miles is worth maybe 6k is a moronic response. You should know better especially being from Colorado where 3rd gens are selling for some of highest prices in the nation.

My '99 4R Limited with 184k miles cost me $6400, which I still think was a tad high but it's in awesome condition (one owner/dealer serviced) so have high expectations of reliability and longevity. No fanatical 4R market here like Colorado - most folks buy newer models if they want one, but the older ones sell well if in good shape and priced fairly. Many are overpirced, as usual. Ultimately, a buyer's market for those in the know, thankfully.

You appear to have miss-spelled your own user name, could a mod maybe fix that up for him? Its Twan, -n +t, cheers.

It's a good thing Canada has universal health care with all the sick burns he must hand out daily.

So the 18k I paid for mine is why to much?

Let's do some math real quick. The truck had well over 20k in build recipient. Not to mention the amount of man hours it takes to get it to that point. Let's just say 100 at least. Let's take that by at least 80.00 or so an hour. That's another 8,000. We are now pushing almost 30k. Let's talk about the 4runners it's self. It was a two owner truck with a little over 120k. Let put market valve at around 8-9 thousand. So let's say on the low side total into the truck was 35k.

So how is buying one for 18k sounding now since this number in your head is so mind blowing?

At the end of the day it was less than a rifle in my safe. Think about that one.

We all have things we spend money on. This is one of my hobbies. In the end the answer is simple. What ever someone is going to pay for it period.

This may be crazy to you but not to someone else who wants a low milage truck. I would pay every bit of 10k and more for it all day long.

Also something else to think about. When is the last time you looked at a fully loaded 3/4 4x4 truck with a diesel in it? Some of them are in three 70,000 range.

You missed the mark on this one. We are talking about the low mileage stock examples that keep popping up from time to time. SAS and all the other stuff on yours, that's a whole different animal.

Exactly, you see the re-sale value of a 4th Gen? They're expensive. I'd rather buy this low mileage 3rd Gen for less than a 150,000 mile 4th Gen.

Not really man. It's a blank very low milage blank slate for someone. That's the point. For someone who wants a clean start it's perfect. I'm suprized he is not asking 15k for it.

Hell look at a clean low milage tacoma goes for too with a 5 speed 4x4 and a rear locker that's only a 2001. Wow!

wow

4runners have a large following for lots of reasons: a. They are durable b. There are lots of them around and a ton of after market add ons making them extremely versatile appearing to a wide range of buyers. They do have a cult following. C. A comparable vehicle new or even 3 yrs old is $$$$. As others have said, a vehicle is really worth what others will pay and in the case of this example, if there's a lineup of people willing to pay $10k plus, then it's worth $10k plus! If TWAN or whatever his name is, isn't then, fine! Maybe he'd prefer a new Tahoe for $65k! Or if he wants economy, a Versa for $18k...

On the down side, a 3rd gen is by no means powerful. And it won't tow 10k lbs, it won't win races (except Singtoe's).

There is a reason why so many people love this truck for different reasons. If you're one great, if not, buy something else!

This one might win a few races depending on who the competition is. :lookout:

I've owned 5 Land Cruisers and I really love the platform! Having said that, I get more satisfaction and "fun" out of driving my '98 manual 4WD locked 4R than I did from my Land Cruisers. It's lighter, easier to work on, parts are cheaper, and the 3.4 matched to my manual tranny is fun to drive.

Yes there are a lot of 4R's on the road today, but how many of those are run into the ground from a mechanical and interior standpoint?? Lots. Rare birds like manuals, 4WD, locked, manual windows etc etc. are hard to find and in high demand. Not to mention if it's also been well maintained inside and out.

You can have your 65K Tahoe's and Navigators etc. They can't touch the build quality of a 4R and in 8-9 years it'll be sitting in a Wal Mart parking lot with a for sale sign on it for $7500.

You do the math.
