Prinsu vs Frontrunner Input?

love my prinsu rack, came late like with everyone else's but I'm glad i went with it over front runner or gobi, easy to make mounts to attach everything to. Zach always answered my emails same day. my rack came missing the fairing and he shipped one out no questions asked. my buddy waited 5-6 months for his gobi after a group buy so i can't complain

I'm not saying it's not a great rack, but I refuse to push any business his way until he either fixes his business model or sells prinsu. He's backed up, continues to take more orders, ignores people with existing orders and only responds to new ones. The constant generic excuses he gives time after time when he gets called out publicly don't mean a thing and a lot people are losing faith in him. What he did before, doesn't translate into how he's running the business now.

Love the steelies. Damn good looking truck.

I have had my Prinsu full lengh for about 3 months and love it. it did take a while but i stuck with it because some of the people on this forum said it was worth the wait. it definately was worth it. I do get tons of compliments. also I did not drill the front nuts. I used rubber feet and trimmed them to the correct height after test fitting the rack. it has not shifted one bit. I' ve only loaded surfboards so far.

Thanks. Getting closer and closer to being done with it. Just needs bumpers now.

I finished my a few years ago. Was about to rid of the truck two months ago. But then realized it's a perfect vehicle. So I decided to totally change the look of the truck and start over.

Any opinions on these two roof racks, would love to hear from someone who has had both. I like the options for the frontrunner but I think the prinsu looks better also can't really find any great frontrunner pictures and the one on there sight makes the rack look really short?

I did quite a bit of research on both of these before ordering my Prinsu. You can see some of the results here. I went with Prinsu because of the lower profile -- being about half the added height to the ride compared to Front Runner -- and a particular aspect of the cross bars connecting to the rails that favored my needs I will explain below. The Prinsu rack also looks more like it was built specifically for the 4runner than the Frontrunner, following the lines of the roof. Price was barely a factor because ultimately I didn't get into this hobby because I was trying to save a couple hundred bucks.

My wait wasn't as long as some -- was promised 4, received in 6 (this was in March or so). But man, I must have emailed, texted, called and messaged Zach on Facebook a few dozen times during those weeks. His responses were generally actually pretty timely -- usually within 48 hours. And thankfully, it came with all the right parts.

Having spent much of the last few years trying to muster the patience to deal with the discrepancy between promised and actual lead times for all the various accouterment for my ride -- I have come to believe that there is a premium I will gladly pay for immediacy and good communication. I have read enough reviews about Zach/Prinsu to know that my experience was a bit of a unicorn. To be clear, I'm glad I have mine, but if I were to buy another rack today, I'd probably just go right to the Front Runner store and leave a few hours later with the rack on top of the ride. I really am so exhausted by the promised and actual lead time gap of fabricators in this industry. At the time of writing this review, Prinsu's website says "6-8 week lead time on all new orders"; Front Runner Slim Line II is in stock right now. And given my own experience of ordering a Prinsu rack with promised lead time of 4 weeks, but not receiving for about 6; as well as, others on this site who are waiting upwards of 12 weeks -- to be skeptical of "6-8 weeks" would be an understatement. Frankly, I wish fabricators would promise 12-15 weeks, overshooting what they expect, and then surprise me by delivering in less time. There would be so much less anxiety and animosity on both ends.

As to details about the racks: Front Runner has a wide array of neat accessories, many of which won't work without some tweaking with the Prinsu, and some that won't work at all. Frontrunner is readily available, no wait time. Extensive support for the Front Runner -- despite a lot of messages, I never actually got Zach on the phone, whereas Front Runner answered the phone EVERY TIME and were eager to answer questions. The Frontrunner is only about 6.5" shorter in length than Prinsu. Both require drilling to secure front mounts. The top bars of the Front Runner are flush with the side rails, whereas the Prinsu has perhaps a 1/16-1/8" drop from rails to cross bars. Depending on what you're planning to mount to the rack, this might make a difference. I had a Gobi before and for loading building supplies, e.g. boards, plywood, I liked the drop -- same with the Prinsu. But I sold the Gobi because my Alu-Cab RTT calls for square bars and flush connection between rails and bars. A simple enough fix with a couple washers, but another thing to consider in making your choice.

The Prinsu is a thing of beauty. It's a very smartly designed rack. It's solid and efficient. That the Prinsu is a bit lower profile though won't make much of a difference for most people, especially if getting a giant RTT, since they'll be leaving the thing on most of the time anyway. However, I should point out that something that is pretty cool and unique about the Prinsu regarding cross bars. I bought a couple extra cross bars, which I permanently mounted to the Alu-Cab, and a gantry crane for my shop. I'm in the process of set up a hoist system so I can drive my ride into the shop, under the crane, connect the RTT, open up 8 directly accessible bolts, and lift the RTT and awning off the ride, no problem. This is not something that would be as easy with the Front Runner. But again, this whole set-up requires a lot of contingencies that are specific to my circumstances. And in truth, I spend so much of the year using my ride in the wild, I'm not sure when I'll actually even foresee a time to take the RTT off. I like having the option though. Again, another consideration to deliberate.

Both are good racks and have a lot of shared qualities. The disparities ultimately lie in how immediately you need the rack, customer support from manufacturers, accessories, and minor adjustments for application.

Happy to answer any specific questions you have, hopefully this rather long post has been helpful.

Congratulations to CBI Off-road on acquiring the Prinsu rack business!

I wasn't even part of the group buy, haha. I ordered March 1st, received May 19. It was ridiculous and I didn't even start getting answers until I blasted him publicly on TW. Fortunately I was at home when it got delivered and I installed same day. Still debating on whether I want to paint it, but the bare aluminum is kind of growing on me.

That's like twice as fast as Gobi, and they are well established, just saying for reference.

When I got my front runner rack I didn't know much about Prinsu (they were just starting to pop up). And still don't know much about them other than how they look. If I had to do it all over again I think I might go with Prinsu for the sleek design and better aerodynamics.

Front runner has its benefits as well; you can slide a table under the rack if you don't have a spoiler, there's tons of attachments, it has a wider footprint and you get the experience and R&D of an amazing South African company. The main USA office/store is local to me as well, so that also swayed my decision.

Here's some pictures of my front runner full length rack. It had to be a custom install using tracks instead of the stamped rail mount to get the extra length up front. That being said this thing is ridiculously strong...

As you can see the rack is pretty wide as well. It pretty much is the same width at my Tepui tent.

I had Frontrunner on my T4R and my brother had the Prinus on his Tacoma. Both had GREAT built quality and very steady. Can stand on either without any flex. But as a guy who has worked on both I can add some notes.

1) BOTH are are PIA to put together. I mean really it's just ALOT of time. When compared to a friend who had a 5th gen Baja. and since it's shipped as one piece it much easier to deal with.

2) If you go Frontrunner budget the extension, I was very unhappy with the length. It's too short, with A RTT I really can't fit anything else. ALSO it stop int he middle of the sunroof and depending on what you put on the roof rack that caused problems with wind noise. In fact originally I put my RTT toward the front and it created a vacuum which caused a sucking effect on the Sunroof. (thats even with the wind shield)

3) Although the Prinus LOOKS better (its low profile) make it undoubted the better looking rack It makes it a huge pain in the dick. Might not be as big of a problem depending on what you use it for. If your using it for things you'll mount and for the most the time forget it might not be a big deal. We use our racks to mount RTT and still be able to mount other things. We'll getting the RTT to fit and bolted on the Prinus. normally lead to bleeding knuckles. But in the interest of MPG it's something that has to be taken on and off.

4) FR has all the mounting bracket you could want. Everything mounts up cleanly With the Prinus you'd be doing a-lot more custom brackets.. which although they work most the time they aren't as "clean"

5) you really can't go wrong with either. The add-on make FrontRunner a GREAT option and no one does their add ones like FR does.

I hope this helped if you have any question about either let me know.

I sold my T4R and got a GX470, I will be getting another FR roof rack it that tells you anything. Although it should be noted the GX one is longer than T4R for whatever reason. Again IF I were to do it again, I would only go FR with the extension

My understanding is the sliding table can be used from the side as well, so that even with a air deflector you can load/unload it.

What is the "extension"? Do you mean full rack instead of 3/4? I looked thru the site and didn't see any extension option.

Thanks for all the opinions guys! I am also curious about this extended rack from frontrunner? Really like the bare aluminum look however a little worried up here in the salt belt about corrosion, but after seeing the white one I am not against having it powder coated to match. Also does anyone have any more info on prinsu being sold.

I have a Prinsu, and I helped a buddy with his Front Runner (5th gen)

Both are really solid designs and have a lot going for them. Front Runner offers more accessories, sits slightly higher and has a well thought out mounting system. I do kinda like the overhang on Front Runner so you can mount your lights under the rack lip which offers increased protection

Prinsu is low profile, easier to adjust and allows swapping rails on the truck

Prinsu was a breeze to assemble, took me 30 minutes by myself. Front Runner took 2 guys most of an afternoon (maybe we're just dense?) The angled mounting brackets (rack to body) are painful and take forever to tighten down.

That said; I'd buy either rack depending on my final use.

That blue truck looks awful!! The rack looks like it is about a foot tall, must be the first model before the slimline II. I have to say the more I see the frontrunner the worse it looks.

The rack has apparently changed between some of these pictures. If you goto FrontRunners web site, and look at the Full rack, it is substantially longer just the way it comes than the one in the group buy before it was extended. I think the extension may have been something they offered back in the 3/4 rack days? Now they have a full rack which seems to be of decent length.

I can't speak to Prinsu, but I very much like my Frontrunner rack. It is quite solid, and not only are there are a ton of accessories for it, it is pretty straightforward to bolt anything else I want to it. Also they always answer the phone and answer my questions. I don't think you can go wrong with FrontRunner.

in case u want to see what a gamiviti rack looks like. it is steel but only weighs 45lbs. was told lead time would be 4-5 weeks and he was right on the money. feel free to pm me with any questions.
