Pro Comp wheel problems?!?

I am having major issues with my wheels. I am now on my second set of ProComp Knight Krome 18x9's. The clearcoat/chrome started to chip off within months of them being installed. I called 4wheelparts in Dallas and sent them photos and within 5 days ProComp sent me out a new set for free no questions asked (which makes me wonder if a lot of people are having the same problem with these wheels). ProComp told 4wheelparts that the wheels must have been baked improperly and that the chrome didn't fuse to the wheel correctly. I was extremely excited at first....but now I have had the new wheels on for less than 2 months and it's happening AGAIN!!!!!! I am extremely pissed...for the amount of money I spent on these wheels I should NOT be having this problem. Also, I have never used any chemical/cleaning compounds on the wheels.

Has anyone had problems with Procomp products in the past? Should I demand store credit and get different wheels? I like the wheels that I have now and was thinking about getting them in the cast black finish but this whole experience has made me extremely skeptical about Procomp products.

Baked? That's the first I've ever heard of chrome being baked on.

I'd ask for Pro Comp to reimburse you or pick another rim from their line up and stay away from that finish.

Man - those look bad. I was going to buy a set because of seeing your post a while back when you first got those. I wonder if they have the same problem in chrome? I wonder if I go polished it will be safer?!
Maybe you should get a refund and get a polished set - then get them powder coated yourself with the difference in price?

Headed to 4wheelparts tomorrow. I'm hoping I can just go ahead and pick out a whole new setup and if there is a difference in price I will roll it into a new set of tires. My STT's are pretty much burned through.

Oh man, that's bad. It looks like the "knight" effect is made in part by chroming over a dark substrate. Either the electroplating is not thick enough or it does not adhere well to what is underneath.

Since you got them from 4Wheel Parts and you need new tires, get a refund and go for some 17x9 Moto Metal Skulls.

Those are one of my favorite rims. That's terrible that they're not holding up and turning out that way. I would request for an exchange of a different rim, it's unacceptable to go through the replacement ordeal every couple months.

Those rims are most likely powdercoated! there is powder coat out now that has the same effect as chrome without all of the polishing and chemicals, i.e. its cheaper. thats why they said it was a problem with baking and the rims are black underneath! My experience with the chrome powdercoat is it wears extremely fast if its not clearcoated! My guess is its an issue with the company that makes the powdercoat not pro-comp! jus my .02!

get the black cast blast version of those and you'll love em. if they look good on my white runner, they will look only better on your black runner :cheers:

18x9 Hoss wheels in black...most likely wrapped in new Cooper STT's or Toyo MTR's. The end result will look something like this.

The KMC Hoss wheels have arrived. I've posted some pics of the test fit below. That being said, I don't like the way they look on the truck. The shallower backspacing (4.53 as opposed to the original 4.75) tucked each tire too far into the wheel well for my liking. It's also too much "bling" for me and I'm looking for something a little more rugged and with a deeper lip.

Pro Comps in Cast Black and Toyo MTR's have been ordered...should be in Friday!

Just my opinion, but they look pretty nice from the pics.
What will you do with these tires and wheels? Can they be returned once they've been mounted?

The Hoss wheels will be given back to 4wheelparts when my new Pro Comp Cast Black wheels and Toyo MTR's come in this Friday. The tires pictured are my original Cooper STT's that I need to have replaced (unless someone wants to take them off my hands on the cheap). They would make a good backup set for someone.

Hey trik.. that's messed up. I've never seen rims go bad like that. But I agree with you.. the 4.75 offset wheels of the 18x9 are far much better looking than those 4.53's. In fact the 4.53's looks horrible, like toyish. Do post pics when you get the new ones in!

Those look much better than the wheels with the shallow lip - does the 17x9 have the same amount of lip? Also, just wondering, why no center caps? Do they stick out too far or something?
