Probably an obvious question.

Ok guys, this is probably an obvious question, but the answer has eluded me for two days. Searched Google, maybe I'm asking the wrong questions.

What is the silver coating behind lights? I'm talking off road lights, head lights, flashlights, the whole nine.

Is it just a chrome or silver coating, or something more?

I've got some ideas for 5 Baja lights that I have sitting around, and before I start to cut these damn things up, I want a solid answer as to what the coating is.

Any help would be appreciated.

I believe it's the same kind of stuff they use on plastic grilles that are chromed. It's just a coating I think.

Probably depends on the quality of the product and may vary between products.

Its just a chrome coating of paint they put on plastic.

My plan isn't complete yet. I wanted to figure out the answer to that question before I finalized anything.

BUT, basically what I want to do is see if I can get two or three bulbs into a couple of the housings. The way I see it, if I put two bulbs into the two housings on the side, it will give it a little more of a flood pattern, which will open up the FOV a little more.

I could be wrong, but I figure it can't hurt to try. I would love to get the LED lights, but they're too damn expensive.

I would love to build my LED lights, but I can't find any that are even worth it. All the one's I seem to find are 10mm, and the most candela I found is 140kmcd. That's not going to do shit for me.

I don't feel like buying some other lights, like the LED Blazers at autozone or one of those places, only to rip them apart to find out that my idea isn't going to work.

If you happen to know of a place where I can get some better LEDs, let me know....
