Problem from Deckplate Mod?

Anyone think this deckplate mod went bad? I don't recall there being a space between the sensor and the air box (as shown in the pic below) before the install. When the air box was reinstalled, the two pieces would not fit back together tightly. Did I just miss this detail before the install? Or do you think something might have gone wrong? '98 SR5. Thanks.

That has nothing to do with the deckplate itself. You messed something up when you took out the airbox.

Take the box back out and make sure its together properly before you re-install.
 
Thanks for the feedback. I already tinkered with it for quite awhile before asking this question. I've loosened some of the clamps on the intake tube and wiggled everything to try and move it back in place. All the screws on the air box lined up perfectly just as before the mod. There are two sets of "gaskets" (not sure the technical name) that help seal the connection between the air box and the sensor/intake tube, so I assume the seal is air tight. I'll run it by a friend who works on Toyotas for a living.
 
I had the same issue when I pulled my intake tube off to clean the MAF and Throttle Body. It's been like that ever since, after about an hour of screwing with it I gave up. I've had no issues with it that way at all.
 
That's how my air box looks. I had a "Pep Boys special" filter clamped to my intake tube when I bought my truck, so I got a air box off of Craigslist from someone and a K&N drop in filter so I could smog it, and it lined up exactly like how yours does. It appears to be sealed as far as the inner fitting goes though. I believe the two bolts that hold the two together can slide and adjust a bit. If that doesn't work, I wouldn't sweat it unless you're throwing a CEL light or have a weird idle or something.

I dont agree with that. There is on opening in the air supply line that is Post-filter. FIX IT.
 
Do you have a body lift? If so, the engine stays put while the body and air filter box goes up and that pulls on it. Mine has looked like that ever since I put the body lift on. I just took a large hose clamp and wrapped it around that part to hold the gap closed.

If you can help the OP with USEFUL advice, please do. I was stating that mine looks like that, other people have chimed in & said theirs looks the same, and you choose to single me out on your replys. Got any suggestions to fix it or you wanna keep the stick up your a$$ a while longer?

You blind? I did help the OP, told him he should fix it and how. Told you the same thing.
 
It's not open though, it still seals fine. I held my hand over and even tried with a paper towel, revved the engine, there is no vacuum effect there sucking anything in.

If I'm misunderstanding, I apologize. You said to take out the air box and make sure it's together properly. The air box is 1 fixed piece. The intake tube with the MAF sensor bolts to it with 2 bolts. There's nothing to assemble incorrectly, correct?

well if its air tight somehow, then I guess its fine. I thought air was able to get in through that gap or something.

I wouldnt have any personal experience with that gap and its airtightness, I just fixed it when I noticed it during my install.
 
How did you fix it? I'd like to fix mine too but I can't for the life of me get it to stat flush against the air box after I tighten everything back up.
