It's too late now, but this is exactly why I don't use those pitman arm type pullers to loosen ball joints from the lower control arms. I have found that loosening the castle nut a few turns, and then hitting on the side of the control arm where the ball joint pin goes through will cause it to break free just about every time. Normally you don't have to beat the sh@t out of it, just keep rapping it with a normal strike and it will eventually break free. This method doesn't damage either the threads or the castle nut, and works just about every time. Just be carefull to hit the control arm, and not the boot over the ball joint.
