OK, I can't believe this, but I can't get the grease gun onto the zerks on the ujoints! I push as hard as I can and it won't attach, and all it does is spew grease everywhere when I pump the gun. Am I retarded or is something wrong here? Never had a problem greasing the joints on my 89 pickup. Help!

just did this for the first time today. my guess is that you are using a grease gun with a flexible hose? this is what i used an found that if i was not careful, the grease gun would slip off the nipple - making a grease mess without getting the job done. a little patience making sure not to move the grease gun too much did the trick. it is a tight squeeze under the truck!

I had the same issue when I was trying to grease my dad's 2002 Sequoia 4WD SUV. I ended up purchasing a grease gun needle to fill the zerk up with grease. The needle is like the same concept as the needle to fill up a basketball or football, however, it is designed for filling up the zerks with grease.

If you haven't done it, make sure you clean off the zerk fitting before trying to attach the grease gun fitting. Also, try to make sure the spring clip inside the grease gun fitting is not stuck or bound up, otherwise it may not hold onto the zerk. I have a generic grease gun I have had for many, many years, and it works fine on my '03.

I have an inexpensive grease gun, and occasionally I have the same problem that you are having. Inside my tip, there appear to be several separate pieces of metal that should be sprung open and then close on the zerk. However, sometimes they seem to not spring back into position, and they remain closed, thereby preventing the tip from seating itself on the zerk.
When this happens, I just take a very small straight screwdriver and force the pieces back into place. So far, this has always worked for me.
Also, I believe there are many different types of grease fittings. Are you sure that your grease gun has the normal (universal?) tip attached to it and not some other type/size?

I had the same problem with the new grease gun I got from Advanced Auto Parts...2 things:
1) Either the zerk fittings are a little bigger than normal
or
2) the grease gun just needs to get broken in (look at above posts regarding the stright pieces of metal that open, then close around the fitting)
I doubt there is anything wrong with the gun. Just make sure to try to push it on as straight as possible.

Yes I recently found that new grease gun did not connect to the Zerks. The head fitting on the gun is the correct one. It is either cheap and dose have the tolerance needed or it is broke. I also removed my old grease gun head fitting and placed it on my new one.

The factory service calls out for two different types of grease. I just Mobil 1 syn. The red stuff.
