I just bought a new 2011 4Runner and I'm able to pair the iPod portion of the iPhone without any problems. But the phone portion is not discovered. Any suggestions?

i seem to recall having the same problem with my iPhone when i got my 4runner. Try and delete the iPod portion of it from the 4Runner. Then, just setup the phone portion, and i think the ipod part will just work on it's own. I believe that is what i did, and it worked great.

good luck

What he said. If it's paired as an audio device it won't work until you unpair it. It will give you the option to use as audio device later in the setup.

I had the same problem. I thought it was because I was running the iOS 5.0 beta. Finally got it working after I had to restore my iPhone.

+1 to this. Reset the config on the headunit and the phone. Then pair it as a phone. Somewhere in the process, you'll be able to add the ipod portion too.

Delete the phone as a 'BT Audio Device' and forget the 4Runner from your phone, then go through the setup re-pair it as a phone.

Or rtfm :)

Okay. I figured it out. I was pairing the phone to the stereo (head unit) when the stereo was in the audio device mode. As a result, the stereo was pairing the iPhone as an audio device. Hence, the streaming audio worked, but the phone did not. So, I deleted the iPhone as an audio device, switched the stereo to a mode other than audio then went through the pairing procedure. By doing so, the stereo paired the iPhone as a phone and not an audio device. Now, the Bluetooth connection works as a phone and audio device.

offroadingatc...........Thanks for the suggestion to RTFM. The Owners' manual gives a far better explanation than you did. :thanks:
