I have a 2000 4 Runner and all of a sudden it would start shaking or vibrating when the gas pedal is pressed. Has anyone else had this problem? Or do you know what it could possibly be? It just started tonight. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

any check engine light, bumpiness, rattles,or any more description.like rpm relation, speed. with out knowing anthing else it could sound like a engine that is stumbling or missing causeing it to run crappy under a load. also any recent tune-up of work done to it.

Yup happened to me b4.

MAF signs going bad. It acts like it does not want to go when you hit the gas too huh?

BAD gas, dirty air filter or ECU just needs to be reset (remove neg terminal from batt for about 30 mins)

had a similar problem rough idle and it would shake basically running like crapola. i switched out my plugs first didnt help then i went to spark plug wires and cured it all up now it runs like a champ.

Dear Ambush,
Thanks for replying to my post. No check engine lights or anything like that are on. And no, it doesn't act like it doesn't want to go, it just starts vibrating when the gas pedal is pushed. If I pop it into neutral and press the gas, it doesn't shake or anything, only when it is in drive. Last month, I replaced the O2 sensor, got an oil change, and a smog check. So aside from the O2 sensor, I haven't had any other issues. Does that sound like anything you might have heard of?

Hello Blk Runner 00,
Thanks for the reply. My 4 Runner is also black by the way. Anyway, no relation to rpm, speed, bumpiness, or check engine light. Replaced the O2 sensor last month, but other than that no problems. It just vibrates/shakes when the gas is pressed while in drive (doesn't do it when engine is rev'd in neutral). Heard of anything like it before?

Chica79,

Mine does that time to time. After I reset the ECU it stops. I really think it maybe a dirty or bad MAF sensor. You know the one everybody talks about.

Mine did something similar. It would shake really badly, and there was no power at all. Reved fine in neutral, but after 2 days, it got worse until it was almost undriveable. Turned out to be a shot fuel pump.

I had a similar issue in my 2000 SR5 (4x2). When driving it would shake when I pressed on the gas pedal but as soon as I let off the vibrations stopped. I later found out it was the U-joints and had them replaced. It has been running great since.
