Is it me, or is this message popping up more and more lately.....

"There seems to have been a slight problem with the database.

An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, who you can also contact if the problem persists.

We apologise for any inconvenience."

I know there has been some discussion around upgrading/changing platforms for this forum, but I was wondering if there has been any progress made. I think the mods were looking into this as well.

I don't know if this has been done in the past, but it might be time to "pass the hat" around for contributions so we can give this forum a shot in the arm. I know that I have gained enough knowledge and helpful feedback on this forum (not to mention meeting some cool, new peeps) that I would contribute if there was some kind of fund raising event.

Thoughts???

I'm relatively new and would be willing to as well. It would help keep the site up and stop that annoying error. Any word from the Mods?

The forum software is a 2000-2002 version. I'm sure they have this thing look into. Yes, we can contribute..but its not as easy as that, if we are to put ourselves in their shoes. All forums where I am a member Don't ask contributions/membership fee( though I can contibute)..

When I was a boy..I asked my dad why Mr So & So will not accept our contribution for the basketball court that was built in his yard? Then my dad explained in which I didn't understand until 20 years later I bought my son a race track for his "Tamiya"..then neighbors came to race and offered donations, they want to add tracks, loops....well I told them " sounds good, but I still have to figure out if it is upgradeable" Then my son asked "Why not just accept their money so we can buy an extension track? So I answered in he same tactful tone like my dad said.

Gentlemen, there are situations(not all) that really needs deep understanding..until those person concerned will ask for help..I will heartily volunteer..ehem!! :biggrin2:

Edit: Tamiya Race Circuit :http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=69506

This is America! Anything is possible!!! :bigok:

I'm not suggesting that everyone be hit up for donations or worse yet, to be charged to use this site. I'm just suggesting that if the reason why this site is unreliable is because of software/hardware/managed services that need to be upgraded and if financial contributions from forum members would help with upgrades, then I'm all in. Maybe post a sticky with a legit PayPal account that members, if they choose to, can contribute. Come on, I'm trying to give away my hard earned $$$ here! :D

Mods, I'm sure this has been discussed in more detail either publicly or amongst the mods privately. What's the latest news and would financial contributions from members be beneficial?

Actually, i thought that the Database Error have been happening less than before. I am currently talking with the server owner about options. We will likely move to a different server in the very near future, which hopefully will solve this problem. As for forum software upgrade, this will have to wait till we move to the new server...and then we will see. Trust me, i don't like this anymore than you guys...i have to be glued to the computer from 8 am to 3 pm every weekday WHILE doing my day job! :( I am screening every new member by hand. The moderators are here to clean up stuff that i missed.

Again, sorry about all this, but we're trying....

Ahhh hell, just when i opened my mouth, database error message came up! :p

Anyway, as for donations, there is no plan to ask you guys for this. I promised in 2002 when this forum was created that it will be FREE for everyone...it will remain so.

No worries, Thai. I appreciate the effort that you and the other mods put into this forum!

Is there an estimated time frame for moving over to the new server?

Very soon...i am trying to get Gatorgreg to talk to the server admin to make the change. The server admin is ready...but GG is on vacation these days...and he is not picking up his iphone!

It can be "free" while still giving members the option to donate for maintenance and upgrades. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if the reason why we are not on a new server with updated software is due to the lack of funding, myself, and I would assume others, would be willing to make a small financial contribution in order to keep this site running as smoothly as possible. :)

Thanks man...nah, it is not due to financial reasons. No bailout needed. :)

i was gonna make an obama comment but i know there is a forum for that already:cool:

ive only had the issue at night? during the "work" day (cause im not really working) it runs great.

On another .org forum I am on we donate to keep it running, keep it up to date and such. Its not asked for necessarily, the owner just put it out there for people to do if they so choose. I have donated 2x because that forum is one of the best rescources I have found on the internet. I have made great friends there and if me donating 20-30 bucks every year or everyother month keeps it going I will do that.

PLUS- its great to know that we will always have th emost up to date software and servers availible because we all donate.

Thai, if you could do that here I KNOW just from being here and lurking around there are plenty of folks that would pitch in because they love your site. I think you could consider it. I know I'm noobish here, but I would donate because this place is great.

You could start donations at like 10-20 bucks then go up. Maybe throw in like a t4runner.org decal for people who donate over, 30 bucks

Just my .02

I am willing to donate $1 to retype the error message and spell apologize correctly. Instead of apologise:bash: :bash: :bash:

Save your buck. Nothing wrong there. It is spelled correctly in (real British and Canadian) English.

Remember, this is the internet so this is an international forum and I believe the site is hosted on a Canadian server.
