PROBLEMS. 60 MPH Steering Wheel Vibration. 2017 4Runner TRD PRO Cement.

I don't know what's going on. It vibrates only at 60MPH when I apply brakes. I know you guys are GURU of 4Runner so asking for assistance. =) Some people claim it's rotor, brake, wheel balance issue.

I'd put my money on the rotors! How many miles do you have on your car? Do any mountain driving?

Warped rotor has the symptoms that you describe and from what I can see on the video. Not covered under warranty as its a wearable item. Ask me how I know. I developed the same issue in my wife's MDX once we moved from Florida to Colorado. Riding the brakes and heating up the rotors and causing warping. Some people would beg to say that a rotor cannot warp but I can argue that point easily lol. Change out the rotors or get them resurfaced. Might as well change out the pads too. Good luck! Warped rotor(s) if it’s only present when applying the brakes and otherwise absent. Definitely not a warranty item as it’s a consumable part.

Yours is pretty mild

Had it in a Honda Odyssey and it was the wobble of death

Replaced with aftermarket rotors and never had the wobble again

Rotors. I got a new set of OEM rotors and OEM brake pads from Amazon. No more vibrations when applying the brakes.

Odds are your rotors are warped. You can try getting them turned. Pull and take them to Pep Boys and they's turn them for $25 for both. However, if you've developed a hard spot in the rotors, the vibration will come back in 3K to 5K miles. Then you need to get new rotors. I highly recommend Raybestos Advanced Technology or AC Delco Advanced Technology (same manufacturer) rotors.

Second possibility is worn shocks resulted in feathered or sawtooth wear on the outside edge of the tires. OEM shocks last about 80K miles, max. Replace with Bilstein 5100s.

to be fair, could also be the fact that it's a TRD Pro. it’s a complicated case, for sure.

Turning rotors is a waste of time. Get some Brembo's and a fresh set of OEM pads and call it done.

Everyone on this thread is correct on rotors, however one possible cause is over tightening of wheel lug nuts.
Make sure they are torqued to the correct ft/lbs, and see if your wobble still persists.

I agree the problem is with the rotors. But I also think it's very important to use correct torque on the lug nuts which can cause warped rotors. I usually rotate my own tires but when I have a shop do it I usually re-torque at home.

How many miles? I have 45k and my brakes and rotors are almost like new. People are getting crazy good life out of stock pads and rotors from what I’ve seen. I realize it’s not a part specifically covered by warranty, but unless you have driving conditions or habits that would cause faster rotor wear than average, I would at least get it documented at the dealer. It’s not unheard of to have premature brake wear covered under warranty and if you did have a brake system problem causing wear, I would want it documented for down the road.

I have 30,000 miles.. so sad that it shakes all the time but too busy to fix it.. Hopefully I can shave the rotors and not replace them. =)
