Problems after changing oil

So I drove the truck up on ramps and changed the oil to synthetic, changed the oil and air filters. Took it for a drive afterwards and it totally sputters when accelerating and going up hills now. Didn't have this problem before changing the oil. Wonder if something happened to the transmission fluid or something when it was on the ramps? What am I missing?

I had to do one of the unthinkable and run with a dry dip stick for 40 miles. It did fine and i never had any complainants from the engine like sputtering. The only thing I can think of is check the MAF sensor if it got dirty when you changed the air filter. Is it a K&N filter?
 
It's the oiled Fram tough guard filter. I will try and clean it and see. I don't know if there is an O2 sensor near the oil filter but I will look into that as well.
 
Just pulled the MAF sensor and it's clean. This is random! I will have to pull the skid plates and see if oil might have got on a sensor or something when I took the oil filter off. Any other ideas?
 
I looked everywhere for possible vacuum lines and couldn't find anything loose. So far it hasn't thrown a CEL yet which I find hard to believe considering how crappy it's running.
 
Did you fill it with oil while it was on the ramps? Are you sure you didn't over fill it?
 
When I checked the oil level wasn't even on the dipstick before I warmed it up. I added another 1/2 quart this morning but haven't been able to check it as I am at work. It definitely is not a transmission problem. It sputters while idling in park and below 2000rpms.

I think the oil level is fine, it looks a bit high but its parked in the parking lot with a slight front end down. Checked the level and its a bit high but hard to tell because its so clear on the dipstick. I put 6 quarts in it when I changed the oil.
 
I usually put 5.5 quarts in and it registers below the top fill line on my dipstick so I'd say you should be fine with 6 quarts.

Are you sure you didn't over oil the filter? Even if it came pre-oiled it may have gotten on your MAF sensor. If you don't have some already get some MAF cleaner and just try cleaning it today to see if that fixes your problem.

It could, but I'd check the oil on a flat surface and confirm it's overfilled before I started draining some out. If it's too full the crank counterweights will slosh through it and create lots of additional resistance in the engine, and it can also clog up your PCV system. Maybe going up hills the oil collects at the back of the pan and the level is high enough to drag down the crank?

Also, oiled air filters on vehicles with MAF's are a bad idea. The oil can contaminate the MAF sensor and cause all sorts of problems.

There isn't. I leak oil down under the filter every time I change my oil with no problems to date.

I'm not a fan of oiled filters for that reason and believe the gains are minimal. I just throw in a WIX or OEM filter every other oil change. I should probably change it more often but I don't really see the need.
 
I am considering taking the air filter back but the MAF was dry and clean, but I suppose I can take it out again and clean it. The filter doesn't seem to have too much oil on it at all, but we will see how it goes.
 
Have you done the classic: "drain the ATF, but fill it with motor oil" mistake?

If you drained your trans pan by accident, and then added 6 quarts of oil to the crankcase you could have these symptoms.

Be very careful with cleaning the MAF, using brake or carb cleaner will damage and ruin it! You need to use an electrical parts cleaner spray.
 
Also note the MAF are two small silver wires. They are kinda hidden and the MAF should be completely removed from the intake for cleaning. The brown bulb that is also part of the MAF unit is not the MAF sensor. The brown bulb is a tempature gauge. Use MAF cleaner and spray a few pulses on each side of the MAF wires. then let it dry. Be careful with the MAF it is fragile.
 
I referenced the oil drain pan and that is the pan I drained. I will feel like an idiot if I accidentally drained the transmission. I drained the pan just above where the two skid plates meet. There was a drain plug there and that is the one I drained. I also took the oil filter off, so if I drained the transmission the oil would have poured out of the oil filter, I would think. I will have to double check it. I will reclean the MAF. It is also below 1/4 tank of gas and the light came on yesterday but I woudn't think it would cause these symptoms?
