Problems, Help Anyone?

So two problems have arose lately. One is that my steering is getting a little worse. Turning to the left is smooth and easy, on the other hand, turning to the right is a little harder and the steering sticks in a couple places. My other problem started occuring just a couple days ago and is quite annoying. When I reverse there is a loud squeeling sound. Its an annoying squeek. It only happens in reverse. It doesnt happen in drive, 2nd range, neutral, or any other gear. Any help would be much appriciated. Im usually able to solve things on my own and can find them with the search button, but I need a little more help with these. Thanks,

First problem most likely can be solved by replacing the guide in the steering rack. If that doesn't work, you'll need a steering rack.

Not sure on the second issue. Are you sure the rear brakes aren't binding up? Is there any resistance in reverse or is it just the squeal? Not a bad idea to climb under it with a grease gun and hit all your zerk fittings. It might fix the issue, might not. But it's good maintenance either way.

No resistance just a squeal. It almost sounds like my tire is rubbing on something.

Another thing is I don't see how the rack guide would cause it to stick when only going to one side.

Would a new guide and poly bushings fix it? Really trying to get this taken care of seeing that its my DD and any input would be much appreciated.

As far as one side vs. the other, I had a Saab 900T that had a back steering rack. Smooth as glass going right, as soon as I turned it left it would bind like hell. I didn't think it was a rack because it was only specific to the one side. Gave in and sure enough, worked great after the new rack.

So, since your the only one inputting, I should jump on a new rack? I really don't wanna spend the $700 or so.

The power steering pump could be getting weak too. If it only binds going ONE direction, then it does sound more like the rack.

The tire-rubbing sound in reverse sounds like you got a pebble or something lodged in the rear brakes or something and it only screeches going backwards. And check the ebrake, they get hung up pretty easy. Could be stuck on one side. Hit the bell cranks with a hammer to make sure the stop screw is all the way up against the drum.

I wouldn't throw $700 at the rack just yet. I'd check out the rack bushings and guide first. Small gamble IMO. Most likely the rack but you could use the new bushings on the replacement rack if it comes down to that. I don't think the guide is real expensive and it's an easy DIY.

Dang, I dint know you already replaced those. Well this keeps getting better and better. Hopefully I find out whats wrong.
