Problems with 4Runners

Anybody have any problems with their 4runners? Anything from Electrical to the Engine. Post the year and mileage. Curious to see whats common.

Yeah for some reason it constantly "begs" for aftermarket parts. I wouldn't call it annoying, but it does keep my pocket book a little light. :cowboy:

Just the driveline clunk, even then, does not bother me at all... All else is good!

2003 - Limited. Sunroof rattle is pretty annoying...
Bought it at 50Kmiles and I think it started getting really noisy around 60K. At 150K now!

2007 SR5 ---> 63,000 miles and not a single issue.

06 V8 SE- Engine knock @ 43K miles. Dealer called it "piston slap" and is very lound in the winter time. Had Toyota engineer looked at it back then he said it safety to drive but Toyota will replace the engine if the noise becomes constant or if the engine blown due to related issues even after 60k warranty expired, all being documented and written statement at local dealer. Just have to deal with the knock, which only last about minute or two.

My only problem is that I can't stop obsessing about it and getting everything done "just right". What would be good enough on another car is not enough for my Runner. It consumes me. I'm already picking out replacement tires and planning on sliders and how to repaint my lower body.

2004 SR5 4x4 100K - i just bought it last week, I LOVE IT.

only thing is the drivers side door locking actuator is slowly dieing.

200k - rear wheel bearings - about $1200
202k - catalytic converter - $260
210k - CV Boots (i think this is what is was) - can't remember - i think $200 or under
210k - rear break caliper
various miles - led's in the AC/Heat control - very cheap DIY job

almost 222k now and something else upfront in the suspension needs replaced that will probably cost another $200 or so, I can't remember the name. I'll have it replaced at my next oil change. Found it during the last oil change but it wasn't a huge deal and my mechanic said we'd get it next time.

still uses no oil
still looks and drives great

OK, I am impressed. 220,000 miles. I was a little concerned about the V6 engine and it's reliability, but that is good to know one V6 made it that far.

My problems with my 2004

1 head light

1 brake light (middle)

CD player stopped working

Got a sulpher smell, 3 times since I have owned it.

66,000 miles, still have the same tires and brakes.

Infamous front brake caliper inside lower frozen piston. Replaced 3 calipers so far.
Manual driver's seat thigh bolster noise/shifting. Using wood shims.
Inner CV boot leaking. Replaced clamps.

06 4Runner SR5... 45,252 miles...

gas tank door hinge has broken apart...
only due to the vibrations from the 2 15in subs im running in the trunk area.

and thats about it... no major problems at all so far...

This is actually very common. It's the design on the pistons. If you pull the engine apart you'll see why. There's not much of a skirt to the pitons. This is what allows much less resistance and the kind of power we get from a v6/v8 though

2008 Sport with 29K miles: Gooey Hatch cover issue (replaced under warranty). Stupid creaky driver's seat issue (also being repaired under warranty).

2008 V8 4WD with 45k miles. The only issues I have are both of the damn front seats. I've replaced both because of popping and clicking and the driver's seat is starting to pop and again. POS seats in a damn nice truck. What was Toyota thinking with this seat design?

Problems

I'm right at 73,000 miles and up until a few weeks ago I had no real issues to speak of. (sulfur smell once in a while but not a big deal)

Currently I have a transmission vibration under light acceleration from right at 40mph - 45mph.

I think the most common issue is frozen brake calipers but I have not had that issue (yet).

Mines at 236,000, its an '03 v6, still rides smooth and drives strong, minus a few tierod ends and a control arm that is. T4R = unstopable? fingers crossed anyways.
