Problems with Keyless Entry

Bought an '05 V8 Limited about a month ago. I absolutely love the truck, but am having trouble with getting the tailgate to unlock with the key fob. Sometimes I have to press they unlock button on the fob twice to get it to unlock, sometimes three times, and sometimes it never unlocks. I know the key fob is working because every time I press the button I hear the beep from the car. Has anyone else had this problem?

I don't know if I need to reprogram my key fob or what. Does the actual Toyota maintenance manual have instructions on how to change settings like this? I know how to reprogram the key fob for typical use, but I'm interested in changing its actions - like disabling the beeping sound and getting the tailgate to open consistently.

Any ideas?

no this is right. the key fob when pressed once only does drivers door, you need to press it twice within seconds of each other to unlock the remaining doors. if you pressed it three times you may have waited to long from your first push.

im not sure how to disable or change the chimes though

It's a C-BEST setting that's changed by the dealer, as well making all doors unlock with a single press of 'Unlock' on the key fob. A handheld scan tool is needed. You can however remove/unplug the piezo beeper. It's a black round thing along the driver side fender wall under the hood closer towards the firewall.
