Problems with LED Tail Lights

I was just looking over my 4runner while I was washing it and decided to make sure all my bulbs were working. Sure enough I noticed that two strips of one of my LED lights lights were out.

Has anybody else had this happen to them? They are only about a year old.

I'm going to check the wires tomorrow, but I think I'm going to have to drop another $150.

Sorry man, bummer. I just checked mine recently because my 3rd brake loves to burn out... That's unusual that happened.

I completely understand spending the $150 all over again if need be, these lights are f*cking awesome!

That sucks! I'd bet one of the load resistors used to drop the voltage to the LEDs inside of the housing died, as the LEDs themselves should not go out this soon (they're good for TENS of thousands of hours usually). Another clue is that two whole rows are out. Should be fixable.

Any electronics background?

No. None.

I think this is probably fixable in some way too. Like you said, having two rows go out is weird and probably means something internal messed up instead of the bulbs burning out.

Clemson,

were the led tails the depo ones?

How long have you had it before it went out?

Because I've been eyeing the depo ones the last week or so..

thanks.

steezemcqueen- I'll let you know.

Supra725- They are made by Eagle Eyes and the sell was Sabersports.

I went back and looked at my Ebay history and I bought them December 29th, 2008. So I'm going on two years with them.

I'm going to email Sabersports and see if they or the manufacture has a warranty on them.

The email has been sent to Sabersports.

I took the lights out tonight and checked the wires. No problems there.

I tired to take apart the tail lights, but only found two screws. I unscrewed those, but couldn't get to the inside. I think they have to be headed up to be pulled apart.

all led?

Are those tail lights all led or just the brake lights? It's hard to tell. If the backup, turn signal and brake are led, I might get a pair myself as they look sweet!

I got a pretty quick response from them. They said they will replace them for only $20.00 to cover the shipping and handling.

Here is the email.

"Thanks for contact us. They only offer 60 days warranty. But don't worry, we can still able to help you to replace a complete new set. And we will charge $20.00 for the S&H fees. Let us know if you want do so. And we will give you the info to sent them back to exchange.

Thanks
Sam
Sabersport"

The grammer in the email is a little fishy. What do y'all think?

Wording is fishy and at first I thought they were saying buy another set. They did use the word exchange in there so maybe $20 fixes the problem. You're going to have to reply asking to clarify. Send your pair back (at your expense), pay $20 for them to ship out a new set and done deal? That's pretty damn good customer service if that's the case. Keep us posted as I bought my Eagle Eyes from them too...they have only been on for 3 months though.

Yeah. I've told them that I would gladly exchange them for $20.

Waiting to see what they say.

If that's the case then it would be amazing customer service.

I've been talking to them over the last few days and they said that all I need to do is send back my set and $20 and I will get a new set.

The bad grammar has continued.

Y'all think I should do it?

I'd say do it, I forgot who I got my LED tails from, but I think they are the DEPO ones, and have never had the time to ask someone to hit the brakes for me to check my lights, but I think they're okay and have been in for about a year now, and still look new. I bet $20 gets you one new tail light and your other working tail light back in the mail.

I'm subscribing to this because I noticed today that I also have some LED strips out on my passenger side...don't remember if they are DEPO or what though...

Mine were the passenger side too...

I'm pretty sure I'm going to do it. Their grammar is just throwing up a red flag for me.

yeah i would go for it. i would give you some money for your old ones...but it would be bigger than a $20 difference

even though their english wasn't proper..

but if they stand behind their products, why not give it a shot?

spending $20 dollars is better than spending $150 for a new set..
