I have a 2000 4runner SR5 and have driven it and loved it since 2008 when i bought it with 153,000 miles on it. I replaced the engine at 257k and now it has 350k and was badly in need of maintenance so I spent the bucks and did wheel bearings, drive axel, new struts and shocks and sway bar, new radiator, and everything was going great except for one thing - the ABS. And i have to say, this problem has been dragging on for so long -4 months - that I am really losing heart.
When the check engine light came on, the mechanic did a diagnostic and told me the ABS ECU was not working so i bought another. That was the latest and I thought the last problem with the ABS but it didn't fix the problem. So i brought it to Toyota and Toyota diagnosed it and said it was the Actuator Assembly that wasn't working properly so i replaced that and no - did not solve the problem. Now the braking system is still out of whack. When I brake, just before the car reaches a full stop, I hear a warning sound, and then the pedal vibrates. At times, the vehicle starts to skid a little. So please make sure the ABS is working properly before you buy.
Can somebody please help me with this vexing problem? If you have the solution I will pay you !! thanks
