Programing Keyless remote??

Scag

New member
Just wondering if its possible to program a keyless remote without going to the dealer. With some acura's you just have to stick the key in the ignition, turn it on and off, and hit the lock button a few times on the remote. Is there a method similar to this for my 98 4runner limited?

thanks in advance!:)

hmm the post says those are instructions for the 99-02. I tried them anyway and it didnt seem to work. Is the 98 different?

Where did you get the remote? I bought one off ebay and It came with instructions and it programed pretty easily.

Is everyone here speaking of programing remotes for the stock Toyota alarm system? I have a 1997 that came with the VIT (Vehicle Intrusion Protection) factory alarm. Unfortunetly, my vehicle came with no remote. Is is possible to get a remote off of say ebay and program it to work? That would be excellent.

Yes you can get one off ebay, thats exactly what I did. I think it was like 30 dollars shipped. And it takes about 5 minutes for programing.

I was able to program the remote for my 02 using the write up I found on yotatech. There are a few steps to follow and the first time I tried, the program did not take, I tried again and it worked fine. You can buy a remote off ebay but make sure it is the right one, you need to check the FCC ID on the back of the clicker, the remote people said worked for 3rd gens didn't work for me, I needed ID - HYQ12BAN, if you have the VIP alarm you need a different remote, can't recall that FCC ID though.
