How to tell if I have a remote starter

I just got a 2018 4R SR5 Premium. Bought a Start-X remote starter kit and proceeded with installation. When I got to the OBD plug I noticed it was black and it seems something is already plugged into it. At this point I stopped and put everything back like it was. It's possible the previous owner had a remote starter but I ca't tell. I tried to see if pressing the lock button 3 times works but it didn't.
My question: Is there a way to tell if the car already has an aftermarket remote starter kit installed?
I didn't see a control box under there but it's had to tell. But there are definitely extra wires there.

an aftermarket remote start might come with a special fob. so you could have an aftermarket one, just missing the fob, or one that doesn't need a special fob like startx. if you pull the side trim near steering wheel, the trim near knee airbag do you see other piggyback plugs in the wiring near the steering wheel? with a pic of what you're looking at we can easily tell you if it looks normal or not

if you wired everything up and the obd was the last step and you noticed something there only it might not be a remote start. is it a piggback plug or something covering the obd port itself like one of those bluetooth plug ins for diagnostics

Amazing how some more space and sunlight can help. Definitely not a remote starter but I believe it's a Lojack GPS tracking system. I'll try to attach some pics. I'll have to see what all is involved in removing that system. There has to be more to it than the harness. Must be a box somewhere.

does the connector protrude out from the port or does the port look factory but there's some sort of y harness on the back? the box is likely up in the area near the switches on the left side of the steering wheel. you can pull the trim down and you'll likely see the main box. I believe if its a simple plug into the obd2 port you can unplug it and thats it

Thanks Humble Leader. The port doesn't look OEM and it actually fits loosely in its space. I will track the wires and they will probably lead me to the box.

ok so its a jumper harness. it should be easily removable now. disconnect battery first and then unplug and follow the wires on the jumper. now one thing I'm not sure of is if there are spliced wires. most likely if a shop did this they would have not used t taps but actually stripped back some of the factory wiring and wound the wire to splice into the factory wiring and put tape around it. they wouldn't solder that takes too much time and requires skill. these are easy to spot just follow the wiring. they are also fairly easy to remove. you can peel back the tape and untwist. I would get some liquid electrical tape to then seal the exposed wire and you're good to go.

they had to tap power from somewhere it looks like since there's a fuse there. either they ran it straight to battery or tapped a wire

Looks like it could be a remote starter, a lot of them are plug and play and tie into the OBD2

It was indeed a GPS tracking system. The box was tucked up behind the instrument cluster so I removed it to gain access. I was able to pull out the whole system. There was no extra hard wiring involved. I'm glad it's out. I will now clean the lens on the cluster and the cluster surround then install the Start-X and finally put everything back together. Thank you everyone for the replies. Good lesson to learn. I really wasn't comfortable knowing someone is collecting and selling my data.
