2004 4runner SR5 - bought some toyota keys - a dude cut them for me - now I need someone to program them... Stealership was outrageous - a local dude said he would do it for 125 - I had an 03 Ford Ranger and found a form that told me how to program them myself - anyone have any insight?

To the best of my knowledge, there is a procedure to program a key fob (door lock/unlock, rear window down) control, but not one to add or remove a key. You need a diagnostic/access control device connected to the system to add or delete a key from the system computer. I had one added about 5 years ago, and it cost me less than $60.00 for the key, and less than $30.00 to have it programed into the system at the dealer. Also, as I remember, the system can only have a total of 4 keys programed into it at one time. If you lose a key, it has to be deleted from the system before a new one can be added, if you are at the 4 key limit.

Agreed. I priced additional keys for my 2007 back in 2008, and the dealer quoted me $45 for the keys with programming.

Last summer I paid around $100 for additional programmed key but no remote.

I just found a Toyota Dealer in Northern Minnesota (where I am driving to right now from Colorado) that will charge me 49.99 to program two keys.

I already have the keys (bought Toyota keys online for cheaper) and got them cut (for free by a buddy that works at a locksmith) - just need them programmed. 50 bucks is the best deal I have found to have two keys programmed. In the end I probably will save about 100 bucks by not doing everything thru the stealership but it was a lot of dinking around finding the best deal.

I also bought an OEM remote and it came with instructions at Keyless Entry Remote - Car Keyless Remotes Key Fob Remotes for Cars Trucks Minivans Replacement Car Auto Keyfobs New or Used

I have bought other keys thru them and they work great!

Dealer price for remote was 190 I bought it online for 60 - came with instructions (which were easy as pie)
Dealer price for 2 keys/cut/programmed 225 - I paid 50 bucks for two keys and were cut for free (would have cost 8 bucks) and will pay 50 to have them programmed at Toyota Dealer in Northern Minnesnowta!

So really the difference is much more than 100 bucks!!!!

HAd a new key cut and programed at the dealership and the cost 56bucks total I believe
