I followed the directions in the owner's manual for my homelink on my 2001 Sienna and I had to repeat it several times as it is time sensitive and there were several alternatives to try, but eventually one worked. I have the one that allows you to program in three codes so I have our garage and the grandparents.

the homelink is kinda tricky. one make sure ur sear's is pointing in the right direction when you hold down the button. while doing so, the homelink goes thru 3 phases.
1st phase the homelink with just be on.
2nd phase the homelink with start blinking slowly(i was mistaken and stopped holding down my remote's button thinking it was already done).
3rd phase the homelink with start blinking fast, this is when you know ur homelink is programmed completely.
also when you use homelink you have to hold down the button sometimes for a few seconds to get it to work.

I too had problems getting the HomeLink to work. I agree with the earlier posting......make sure your remote is pointed in the right direction. I had it "ass backward" and had no luck till I decided to do it "the other way"(turning it around) and IT WORKED!!!!!! I also agree you have to stick to the time as listed in the owners manual!!!!!

If your garage door opener has rolling code technology, then it's a bit more difficult, or easier depending on your own view. If it does have rolling code, just follow the instructions in the manual and go into the second portion listing rolling code directions. It usually involves pressing a button on the back of the garage door opener unit and then pushing the button on the homelink until it is programmed.
Just keep at it, it takes a while to program it.

I just installed a Gentex autodimming mirror with Homelink a couple weeks ago (dealer said they could not find '03 Sport Editions with autodim and Homelink in the Northeast). I programmed it to operate a one and half year old Sears garage door opener with rolling codes. The key is finding the button on the side of the opener (on mine it's a square red button) so that the Homelink can connect.
I forgot the exact sequence of steps, but I didn't have to anything different from the directions. Just make sure you press and hold the buttons on the Homelink and your old garage door remote for the full duration until the LED has the correct rapid flashing.
