Progressively Rising Transmission Temperatures

25k? You live in Nepal?

Seriously though, your not lucky your smart. 4lo will keep you cool. I keep it in 4hi until I need to engage 4lo. I like to go as fast as conditions allow. Which is pretty fast usually.

I was talking shit. Lol. But usually the trails here gain altitude very quickly. 4lo pretty much for miles on end it's so steep.

If you have never replaced the fan bracket, you may want to consider doing such at the same time if there is any wobble in the bearing. I think the fan clutch is torqued to 67 in/lbs.

I take it you have the external tranny cooler right in front of the condenser in front of the fan?

Clemson won't be as good this year but will be top 20 hopefully. Can't wait for CFB season to get here.

Thanks for your input. I've read all kinds of pros and cons on the tranny cooler and you're input along with the cooler environment in the Northwest is exactly the reason I went in-line with the radiator. As you said, I think I'll stay that route. Just been playing around with some thoughts. I think a fan clutch replacement wouldn't hurt, despite it's minimal gains and perhaps a flex fan (only thinking about it). It can only help improve the engine and I'll take whatever improvements I can. If I go with the electric fan, I'll get with Rcastle and we'll install one similar to his along with the 3-core radiator he just installed.

Just for the record, I didn't go with the 3 core aluminum I found because it got horrible reviews on the radiator and the customer service of the place that sold it. I am currently using a Tacoma 20" radiator so it doesn't hang below the frame.

My new setup just driving around town, sitting in traffic, and on the freeway my coolant temps are between 188 and 193, tranny temps I don't think I have been over 185 yet with my external 2 core cooler with a fan, bypassing the factory cooler.

Hopefully tomorrow afternoon or the Tuesday I will be able to head up to Jones Creek and test some hill climbs under load and see what my temps do since that is where I was having problems before.

Hey Mike, update?

Dante Pettis has some big shoes to fill this year.....
YES!!!

Parts On order and should be here this week. Temps are looking good. We had a break in the weather this weekend and both temps were easily below 200. More around the high 170's again. I had the normal spike on my way home, but that's expected. My rig just isn't used to these 105*+ temps. Neither am I for that matter!

Definitely stoked about the upcoming season. We should't have a problem with our opening games. Less than 30 days to go...

Let me know if you need help. I am free most evenings. I need to get you your chainsaw and stuff back too.

What is this 20" Tacoma rad you speak of? I have a manual & a body lift so I dont need a big rad that sits on my skid plate. I'd actually be able to raise my skid an inch or 2 in the front with a smaller rad. I have spacers in there now.

Tacoma radiator

I am using a 1st Gen Taco radiator. (95.5-2004)

They came with 3 different options.

18-11/16 between tanks
20-3/4 between tanks
22-5/8 between tanks.

The 20-3/4 sits right at the same level as the bottom of our frame. You will have to get the Tacoma radiator cap for that radiator and the bottom hose is shorter so I am using a top hose off of a 95-00 Dodge Avenger v6, it fits perfectly. Tranny cooler is still there for auto's and it drops right in. I can get you some pictures of how it sits in there if you would like.

I have had no adverse cooling problems from running the slightly shorter radiator.
