regular grease in the u-joints & moly grease in the slip yokes, according to the owner's manual. personally, i use Mobil 1 and Valvoline SynPower, respectively.

there's 4 u-joints and 2 slip yokes. both of the threads posted above have pics & diagrams to make it perfectly clear.
i was doing some research on the types of grease and found out that some guys are using moly base for the side yokes and lithium base for the u joints.....now I dont really want to be dealing with 2 different guns and have narrowed it down to using amsoil synthetic multipurpose NLGI#2.... and was wondering if any of you guys out there just use 1 type of grease for all the zerk fittings? and what are your experiences.

I used one grease gun with moly grease for all the zerks on my Land Cruiser. I never noticed anything for better or worse over 5 years.
I bought a second grease gun on sale for $10 for use with the 4Runner with non moly grease, mainly because it was on sale. I wouldn't sweat it either way as long as you're greasing them regularly. When I worked at a dealership everything got hit with the same grease gun with non moly grease.

I checked with my local dealer, and they use Moly for everything. There are many arguments across many different Toyota 4x4 forums on whether you need to use 2 different types of grease on your driveshaft or not. I have yet to find any conclusion, or any proof showing that it does or does not matter.
After hours of searching through conflicting opinions, I gave up, and decided it wasn't worth the time.
Knowing how annoying the "Driveshaft Thump" can be, I just decided to bite the bullet, and get 2 grease guns, and use what Toyota calls for in the Manual. It really isn't that much of an investment. So far, I have been able to keep my 4Runner's driveshaft "Thump Free" for 35k miles.
Every 10k Miles, I use:
Synthetic Polymeric Off-Road Grease, NLGI #2 (NLGI #2 - 5% Moly)
AMSOIL Synthetic Polymeric Off-Road Grease, NLGI #2
For the Slide Yokes
and:
Synthetic Polymeric Truck, Chassis and Equipment Grease, NLGI #2
AMSOIL Synthetic Polymeric Truck, Chassis and Equipment Grease, NLGI #2
For the Spider Gears.
After farting around with a few different cheap grease guns, that always ended up breaking or leaking everywhere, I decided to invest in some decent grease guns, the Lincoln 1134:

You know, it's funny, last time I took mine in for service, they said there really isn't anything to grease under there...
Ended up getting amsoil multi-purpose synthetic grease and pumped it in all the zerk fittings. I just couldn't deal with 2 grease guns. Heard the snap crackle n pop noise from the U joint zerks after 3 pumps and stopped and did about 8 or 9 pumps to the slider yokes and stopped but didn't see any grease drip out on the sleeves of the shaft. Hope I put enough grease in them.
