Torque Spec

I'm about to perform my 15K miles service on mine. Just wondering what is the recommended torque specifications for the drive shaft? Dealer has quoted me today for $279 15K mile service. I will let them change my oil for $20 and probably rotate my tires but that's it. I'm doing the rest. I misplaced my manual during our move and I don't think the torque spec is even covered in the manual.

The propeller shaft bolts and nuts are spec'd at 65 ft-lb, but I'd be surprised if you budge them.

What does $295 cover in the 15K mile service? You may want to do it yourself.

I just read this quote from a member over in the "Problems & Warranty" section of the forum. It is located in a Sticky regarding the infamous driveshaft clunk.

I figured it would be a good idea to post this here in the maintenance section even though it has been alluded to before in this thread.

"The Toyota engineer said specifically not to pack the location with greese. Period. It is harmful to do so as the force of the impacts that do occur are then transfered to the casing of the transfer case. He said there have been cases of cracked casings because of over-lubing."

this is in 2004 repair mannual

I went to Auto Zone and got some of the Mobil 1 Synthetic grease. The diagram helped, but my 2004 4WD Runner only has one grease fitting out of the (3) "C";s shown. I looked, felt around, moved the Runner a little to rotate etc...

Later found another post indicating I need to check the front drive shaft as well. Sounds like next weekends driveway project.

Also missing some "C's"

I can find the A and B zerk fittings on both propellar shafts for my 2005 4wd, but can only find one C on each. Is there only supposed to be one C on the 2005?

That pic of the drive shaft lubrication points posted earler in this thread only applies to the 3rd gen and earlier vehicles. As far as I know, from '03 on, the front shaft on the 4wd doesn't have the double cardigan type joint as depicted in the pic. The 4th gen front shaft is the same type as the rear, with two standard u-joints and a slip joint. There is one zerk fitting for each u-joint, and one on the outer sleeve of the slip joint, the same as the rear shaft.

Somebody asked on this or another thread if I had to take the skid plates off to get to the grease fittings on the front drive shaft. The answer is no. I connected to 6 grease zirks today, sliding under the 4Runner on a tarp without lifting. I'm definitely going to buy a new grease gun that I can pump with one hand though.

So the 2WD don't need to be greased?

i'm pretty sure that my 4runner clunks whne I break really fast.

This just started recently. I have 140,000 miles.

I have the same question: Does the 2WD need to be greased? if so, how many lube points are there? BTW, I have a '99 SR5 2WD.
