Propeller Shaft Re-Torque

I know this is a total necropost. This thread is 7 years old this month! I thought it was better than starting a new thread though.

Does anyone know if there is a "proper" procedure for the "re-torque"? I saw some other threads where they were just saying to tighten them some more if necessary, but is that correct? I can't seem to find the procedure in the service manual. The only thing I think I've ever "re-torqued" were head bolts/nuts. Usually with those you loosen them, lube the threads and then "re-torque" them.

Thanks,

Chris

Also you need to realize that if torquing with a crows foot you need to recalculate the overall torque values accordingly.

Yeah, I did put a crows foot on a couple of them and a socket on a couple of bolts. Unsurprisingly they were going absolutely nowhere unless I put a concerted effort into loosening them (I put 65 ft-lbs tightening force into the crows foot and it didn't budge).

Why does the dealer say your driveshaft bolts need retorquing? They shouldn't.

super old quote...

its part of the regular scheduled maintenance.

but, my guess is the dealer will charge you $40 for doing it. and that's all they will do. charge you.

This one has always baffled me. After checking the torque on mine a couple of times over the years (and always finding that they are very tight) I quit doing this.

A buddy is a former Toyota/Lexus tech and he stated he never did this--EVER--as part of service. Free $$$ for the dealership.
