Pros/Cons of 1st gen vs 2nd gen

I don't think you can go wrong with either generation. There are times where I think I'd prefer the 2nd gen. When loading up for a long trip, or in the rain, or muddy conditions and my daughter and dog climb in over the front seats and console and I have to open the sliding windows to buckle her seatbelt...I wish I had a 2nd gen.

I own a 2 and my spouse has a 3rd if you have kids you want 4 doors. And the interior is nicer in the 2nd and 3rd then the first. I love my 3.0 but don't get an auto or has mileage and power suck. 5 speed is the way to go. I also love the 3.4l in my spouses 4runner. My family has 3 4runners and I love them all. But for the price 2nd gen is the way to go. I get better gas mileage and it was only 1400 for a 4runner with 300000 miles and the engine only has 70k on it. Everything works and it rides like it has under 100k

I love both 1st and 2nd gens. Aside from the top coming off and the suspension changes of the 1st gen, it's hard to split them.

That's why I have one of each.

I think the 2nd gens are slightly better at being DDs, especially if you have kids. But both of mine are easily capable of moving me and my 3 dogs. I originally had a 1st gen and came across a 2nd gen for $900. Too nice to pass up and it was going to go to a salvage yard if it didn't sell with the week. Still had a lot if life left in it, so I bought it with hopes of flipping it. Loved having it around, so I kept it... Just finished building a roof basket for it!
