PT546-00160 - 2016+ Scion Head Unit

Can anyone tell me what this, on the new harness goes to?

And what these connectors/plugs are for?

Any ideas why my usb I made from the harness and a usb extension would charge but not connect? Wire the way described in the threads I've seen.

Did you figure this out? I had several blank/unfilled plugs in the back of my radio when I finished too.

It's been a few weeks, but the USB shaped one is definitely for the navy extension. I'm almost positive the other small one is for the nav extension as well. The upper left one is for extensions. I'm not really sure what else is all encompassed in that, but my back up camera adaptor harness plugged in there.

The PT546-00160 does require a 5 or 6 volt camera.

I used the camera source camera when I installed the PT546-00160 on my 2001 4Runner
I used this one on my 2006 4Runner, but the model I used was for a 2013 corolla as I installed a 2013 Corolla radio. The link below is correct for the 2016 Scion Radio

The PAC1 CAMTY12 harness is confusing me...Obviously the male end goes into the back of the HU, but where does the female portion connect to?

Also, the Autohouse harness looks entirely different. Which one do I need for the PT546-00160 HU? This is the last thing I need to hook everything up?

I am not sure about the PAC harness, do you have a picture of the female end you are talking about?
I do believe that the 2016 and up radios like yours use a different camera plug into the back of the radio than the older ones. The camera I bought from camera source was made for a 2016 and up radio. They had a different one for 2015 and older models. This kit made installing a back up camera very easy, everything was included.

I cancelled order until I confirm with a dealer that they can update maps at a reasonable cost.

Just for information: if you will order navigation unit for EU, you can't update this unit by USA maps.

Do you have any information from dealer how to update navigation unit for USA? Part number of map update?

No, but I had to have another unit sent out because the usb wouldn't work. I was mostly interested because I want to use the overhead console with mic.

New guy here, big thank you for all the info. I lucked out and got the navigation module with the PT546-00160, Module #PT296-12160. Question, I can't find a diagram for 2016+ and I don't know what the 2 wires/connectors on the bottom right are for (white/gray). The wires were cut so there is no connector on the ends of them. It looks like one is the USB and the other is to a GPS module that I don't have, does anyone know if that's the case? Still debating on if I want to run the navigation unit or not anyway so not sure if extra parts are needed. Thanks all.

EDIT: Found this link to the install manual. It has labeled pictures of all connectors. Looks like I'll need to pick up a GPS module to get it working.

Affirm, on the NAV module the gray is USB and the white is the GPS. Make sure you get a gps with the right plug, a lot on eBay are for the older nav module from the older t10015 radios.

Nice to see this thread still alive!! I am about to do this myself (for the second time) Just scored a 2016 unit WITH NAV module (which i may or may not keep b/c it's missing some connections)

I've seen some back and forth here and other forums about the harnesses. It has been confirmed here (and by myself) that the mic is only necessary for hands free operation. So can I get by with just buying the PT546-00120-CH harness and not the one with the antenna adapter?? Can't the existing plug just go into the radio? I am trying to save a lil $$$....but if I end up selling the module then that frees up some money.

BUT if I can get by with just one harness...that's nice too!!

I've tried running a 12v signal from the rear reverse tail light to the 2nd pin in the 24 pin harness. I measured 12v was indeed arriving only upon shifting into reverse. Didn't flip the screen to another "source", i.e. like the RCA input. I honestly don't think Pin 2 is the input for a reverse signal as a result of my testing. Could there be some versions of this 2016 Scion radio that don't have reverse camera capability?

Edit: I agree about your thought that the radio shouldn't care if the camera is running 12v or 6v. Those that have the 6v camera are running power from the radio (6v). I'm not getting power from the radio but from an accessory 12v source that is definitely supplying 12v to the camera. The camera is outputting about 1.5v from the RCA plug when the 12v accessory source is powered. It's the radio not recognizing when reverse is engaged (and not knowing to switch input to the RCA source.)

Not sure if you ended up getting this to work, but the trick for me was running the reverse trigger wire into the 2nd pin in the 28 pin harness, not the 24 pin harness as indicated in the instructions w/ the PAC TY-12! [MENTION=133792]Atlas415[/MENTION] pointed me in the right direction.

The only function of the PAC TY-12 harness was to provide the RCA input from the camera into the head unit (and also power if you wanted the head unit to provide 6V to the camera).

It took a while to figure this out, but everything ended up working pretty nicely with the back up camera install. Overall, pretty happy with the look of the head unit.

I would like to let everyone know who may be in the same boat but you do not need the PT546-00120-CH harness unless you have steering wheel controls and bluetooth mic. I have a 2005 xB so I have neither. I was excited to get my 2016 Pioneer hooked up with just the PT546-00120-AD and it works like a champ. Even bluetooth streaming!

Just got my head unit in the mail today and got it installed. The parts list was really helpful. Thanks to everyone who contributed to making this thread. It really made the process easy.

Long story, but my first head unit purchase the seller didn't wrap it up or anything and the screen arrived shattered. So. . . I now have an extra nav module that I am happy to pass on to somebody in need here. I would just ask that you pay for the shipping to your address. I can not make any claims about it's functionality due to the screen being broken, but hey, it's free (*minus shipping) so it doesn't get much better than that. It does not have the GPS antenna, but it does have the cables to connect it to the head unit.

So I got a PT296-12160 from cothirteen off eBay. I still need to find an antenna. Any recommendations? Also, ever since I hooked it up, the SiriusXM module no longer shows up... weird. I’ve even tried swapping the USB ports. No luck.

EDIT: It works but only as IPod. At least it works. The interface is not pretty. Turns out USB port on base unit is dead after NAV module is added. I'll reach out to Vais to see if the interface is supposed to be so wonky. I can post pics later.

EDIT2: So Toyota says they only sell the antenna in kits... All of the aftermarket antennas I am seeing have a different connector. Does anyone have any more insight or have an antenna they want to sell me? Antenna is part # PZ490-00338-00. Broker down and ordered from here: http://www.allcarpartsfast.co.uk/toyota/toyota-pz4900033800-gps-antenna-kit/ I'll update once received and done.
