PT546-00160 - 2016+ Scion Head Unit

Not sure if you ended up getting this to work, but the trick for me was running the reverse trigger wire into the 2nd pin in the 28 pin harness, not the 24 pin harness as indicated in the instructions w/ the PAC TY-12! [MENTION=133792]Atlas415[/MENTION] pointed me in the right direction.

The only function of the PAC TY-12 harness was to provide the RCA input from the camera into the head unit (and also power if you wanted the head unit to provide 6V to the camera).

It took a while to figure this out, but everything ended up working pretty nicely with the back up camera install. Overall, pretty happy with the look of the head unit.

This worked. It's the #2 pin of the 28 pin connector. The reverse signal is finally triggering into the Scion head unit and my 12v camera displayed the image. Thanks!

So I got a PT296-12160 from cothirteen off eBay. I still need to find an antenna. Any recommendations? Also, ever since I hooked it up, the SiriusXM module no longer shows up... weird. I’ve even tried swapping the USB ports. No luck.

EDIT: It works but only as IPod. At least it works. The interface is not pretty. Turns out USB port on base unit is dead after NAV module is added. I'll reach out to Vais to see if the interface is supposed to be so wonky. I can post pics later.

EDIT2: So Toyota says they only sell the antenna in kits... All of the aftermarket antennas I am seeing have a different connector. Does anyone have any more insight or have an antenna they want to sell me? Antenna is part # PZ490-00338-00. Broker down and ordered from here: Toyota PZ4900033800 GPS ANTENNA KIT I'll update once received and done.

That's not that bad of a price....yea compared to other generic GPS antenna's you can get it's pretty steep but I've seen them go for more on eBay so not a bad find!! Stupid proprietary connectors!!

Ordered all of the parts listed in the original post along with the PT546-00160 Scion head unit off of an iM. I'm hoping everything shows up before Thanksgiving so I can get it all installed and going.

All of my music is pretty much in MP3 format and listening to the radio got old.

I did have a question, how essential is the "Coromose 1PC USB Audio Adaptor Female Cable For Toyota Camry Venza Yaris " to having the head unit installed and functional? This one will be showing up the latest and I am wondering if I can just install everything else and enjoy the new stereo and then install the cable once it shows up.

Received GPS. Problem I am having now is how to route the cord. I assumed that would be easy but I should've known better. Anyone ever routed? Did you have to drill a hole?

EDIT: Got it. Just used a really long screw driver and made a temporary gap.

Just got my head unit in the mail today and got it installed. The parts list was really helpful. Thanks to everyone who contributed to making this thread. It really made the process easy.

Long story, but my first head unit purchase the seller didn't wrap it up or anything and the screen arrived shattered. So. . . I now have an extra nav module that I am happy to pass on to somebody in need here. I would just ask that you pay for the shipping to your address. I can not make any claims about it's functionality due to the screen being broken, but hey, it's free (*minus shipping) so it doesn't get much better than that. It does not have the GPS antenna, but it does have the cables to connect it to the head unit.

Do the buttons illuminate? I have the same setup as you do but the buttons on the PT546-00160 do not light up. I had the older 2014 PT546-00140 installed and they do light up. I would like to find a fix for this!

My stereo was delivered today and the last of the cables came in yesterday. I went ahead and installed my stereo. It was pretty straightforward. First time through I plugged the mic in the wrong spot but once I got that taken care of it was really easy.

I'm always impressed with how simple it is to take apart the interior dash trim on my 4Runner.

I want to thank the folks who posted all the great info in this thread. I couldn't have done it without you guys.

I didn't have any issues with button illumination. May be something wrong with your head unit or possibly with a connection in your vehicle. Best of luck!

Thanks for letting me know that they work for you. You are correct that its either the HU or the wiring. I have tried another HU with the same disappointing result so I ordered another PT546-00120-CH Wire Harness. Thanks for your help.

The wire harness from AutoHarness has a 16 pin connector that supposed to go into the radio but I can’t seem to find where that is supposed to go. I put the relay wire connection in the door sill...but that 16-pin harness piece, that looks to be the video input, I don’t know what to do with. Any help is appreciated!

Let them know you have the new radio. You need an adaptor that makes a 20-something pin connector that goes to your radio.

subwoofer hookups?

So this headunit looks great, but I'm not seeing any RCA jacks to hook up an external amp/subwoofer...? I have a Scion T1809 currently in my '07 4Runner, and it has RCA jacks on the back. I wanna pull the trigger on this PT546-00160, but don't wanna lose my sub. Any ideas? Are there any wiring harnesses available that I can use? If not, is there another Scion headunit that still has RCAs...AND has bluetooth?

I've got an extra 2016 160 stereo that the USB doesn't work on if anyone is interested. The Bluetooth works, but not USB. If I remember right it would charge but not play music.

The PT546-00160 does require a 5 or 6 volt camera.

Do you have a build thread on adding the PT546-00160 to your 3rd Gen?

I have converted both my 97's to the T1819 and am really wanting to put either the 2014 -00140 or the newest -00160 in my 97 SR5.

Is there a NAV module in your 2001? If so you needed to tap into the VSS speed wire correct?

I love the T1819 so much I installed one in my 2002 Saturn SL1. It's cooling fan is starting to make noise so I figure I would look for a -00140 or -00160 and put it in my 3rd gen. Move its T1819 to my Saturn, and replace the fan in the Saturns and give it to my brother for a birthday present.

Carparts.com they run just above 100 to over 300. The trick is finding one with the NAV module for the -00160 or getting a -00140 that's from a 2014 and up with a NAV module. I call and ask them and so far none I've inquired about have had them.
